We report the case of a 66-year-old female patient with a treatment refractory disorder of wound healing of the knee, who had already been treated several times surgically and with antibiotics for several months. The examination revealed a skin defect with a fistula in the region of the knee joint. The X‑ray imaging showed an extensive bony defect of unclear etiology.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop an evidence-based algorithm for the management of symptomatic bipartite patella in the pediatric and adolescent population based on a systemic review of the published literature.

Methods: A systematic review of the literature was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines on PubMed and Embase, selecting for studies discussing the management of symptomatic bipartite patella.

Results: Five studies met criteria, involving 315 knees (314 patients, average age 15.

Chronic Osgood-Schlatter disease can cause significant knee pain and can result in severe functional deficits. For large, painful Osgood-Schlatter disease ossicles refractory to conservative management, surgical ossicle excision can provide resolution of symptoms. After diagnostic arthroscopy and intra-articular debridement, our preferred excision technique uses an open incision for direct visualization and removal of intratendinous ossicles, followed by distal patellar tendon repair and subsequent fixation with FiberTape sutures and knotless anchors to the tibial tubercle.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive joint disease, and over 240 million people suffer from symptomatic OA, primarily in the knee, and mainly affects the elderly population over 65. A combination of different risk factors leads to biological changes in the microenvironments of the joints, causing cartilage overload and chondrocyte aging. Adipose-derived MSCs (ADSCs) are demonstrated to improve joint environments with an effective therapy for Knee OA.

Article Synopsis
  • Local infiltration analgesia (LIA) is vital for pain management after total hip and knee surgeries, but it carries a risk of local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST), which can be life-threatening.
  • A study with 1,267 patients showed that unilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) had a higher incidence of severe LAST compared to total knee arthroplasty (TKA), with bilateral THA patients at the greatest risk.
  • Using propofol for anesthesia was associated with a lower risk of seizures and tremors than sevoflurane inhalation, highlighting the need for strategies to minimize LAST incidents for safer surgeries.
