The purpose of this collective review on functional electrical stimulation (FES) cycle ergometer training is to describe the pathologic effects of spinal cord injury (SCI) and the structure and function of the FES cycle ergometers, which reverse the devastating systemic and life-threatening effects of SCI. The pathophysiologic consequences of SCI include diminished cardiopulmonary and circulatory function as well as lower extremity muscle atrophy and bone mass reduction. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the two FES cycle ergometers offer promise in reversing these devastating consequences of SCI, which can shorten patients' lives. On the basis of this collective review, it is recommended that all patients with SCI have the benefits of this potentially life-sustaining clinical modality.

Copper is an essential trace element in biological systems, playing a key role in various physiological functions, including redox reactions and energy metabolism. However, an imbalance in copper homeostasis can induce oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inhibition of the ubiquitin-proteasome system, ultimately leading to significant cytotoxicity and cell death. According to recent research, copper can bind to lipoylation sites on proteins involved in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, causing aggregation of lipoylated proteins, the loss of Fe-S cluster proteins, proteotoxic stress, and ultimately, cell death.

Background: Spinal cord injuries (SCIs) cause debilitating secondary conditions such as severe muscle deterioration, cardiovascular, and metabolic dysfunctions, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) combined with cycling exercise (FES-cycling) has shown promise in improving muscle function and health in individuals with SCI.
Objective: This pilot study aimed to investigate the potential role of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess muscle health during and after an FES-cycling rehabilitation program.

Recently study has found a new form of copper-dependent death called cuproptosis, which differs from apoptosis, ferroptosis, and necrosis. The main process of cuproptosis is copper directly combined with lipid-acetylated proteins in the TCA cycle of mitochondrial response, leading to the aggregation of lipid-acetylated proteins and the loss of Fe-S cluster proteins, resulting in mitochondrial dysfunction, and eventually causing cell death. Previous studies demonstrated that an imbalance in copper homeostasis exacerbates the pathological progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) through the induction of oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and the accumulation of Aβ deposition and tau protein hyperphosphorylation.

The conversion of nitrate-rich wastewater and biomass-derived blocks into high-value products using renewably generated electricity is a promising approach to modulate the artificial carbon and nitrogen cycle. Here, a new synthetic strategy of WO sub-nanoclusters is reported and supported on carbon materials as novel efficient electrocatalysts for nitrate reduction and its coupling with α-keto acids. In acidic solutions, the NH-NHOH selectivity can also optimized by adjusting the potential, with the total FE exceeding 80% over a wide potential range.

This study examined the impact of dung beetles on both sorghum growth and the physico-chemical properties of the soil over a two-month period. Four dung beetle species (, subsp. , , and ) were introduced into experimental setups, consisting of containers filled with sterilised clay-loam soil, with three treatment groups: [cow dung + beetles], [cow dung only], and a control group (no dung nor beetles), in order to evaluate their effects on various growth parameters, including the plant height, biomass, leaf area, and chlorophyll concentration.
