Fluorescent spirolactone derivatives are obtained by coupling 3-carboxylic coumarins to a spirolactone bearing a 3-hydroxypropyl chain in the 7 alpha position. The two esters prepared by this method are highly fluorescent (emission 383 and 408 nm).

Both minimal change disease (MCD) and focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS) are the pathological types of primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) and cannot be readily distinguished owing to their highly similar clinical presentations. Currently, methods for clinical MCD and FSGS diagnosis still rely on invasive renal biopsy which impede rapid and accurate diagnosis for timely treatment management. In this study, a novel diagnostic strategy by introducing the dyes with spironolactone structure into the metal-organic cage to construct three dye@MOCs composites has been developed and employed as fluorescence sensor array for assisting in the auxiliary differential diagnosis of MCD and FSGS based on the distinguishable biothiols in urine.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multifactorial disease characterized by oxidative stress and follicular dysfunction, leading to menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogenism, and infertility. Traditional drug delivery methods often result in drug loss and side effects on normal tissues. To address these issues, we synthesized two novel Co(II)-containing coordination polymers (CPs), {[Co(L)(HO)]·2HO}n (1) and {[Co(L)(HO)]·1.

In the brain, the hippocampus is enriched with mineralocorticoid receptors (MR; Nr3c2), a ligand-dependent transcription factor stimulated by the stress hormone corticosterone in rodents. Recently, we discovered that MR is required for the acquisition and maintenance of many features of mouse area CA2 neurons. Notably, we observed that immunofluorescence for the vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (vGluT2), likely representing afferents from the supramammillary nucleus (SuM), was disrupted in the embryonic, but not postnatal, MR knockout mouse CA2.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Triptolide is a major bioactive and toxic ingredient isolated from the traditional Chinese herb Tripterygium wilfordii (T. wilfordii) Hook F. It exhibits potent antitumor, immunosuppressive, and anti-inflammatory biological activities; however, its clinical application is hindered by severe systemic toxicity.

Hydrogen polysulfide (HS, n≥2), as a kind of active sulfur species (RSS), has become a hot topic in RSS. It can regulate the biological activity of many proteins through S-sulfhydrylation of cysteine residues (protein Cys-SSH), and has a protective effect on cells. Although there have been some studies on hydrogen polysulfide, its production, degradation pathway and regulation mechanism still need further be researched.
