Published: May 2018

A direct and practical synthesis of important tetronic acids from easily available propargylic alcohols and carbon dioxide is reported for the first time. This transition-metal-free transformation features high atom- and step-economy, mild reaction conditions, good functional group tolerance and high yield. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds via cyclization to give alkylidene cyclic carbonate, ring-opening and re-cyclization processes.

Lipid Metabolism as a Target Site in Pest Control.

Adv Exp Med Biol

Lipid metabolism is essential to insect life as insects use lipids for their development, reproduction, flight, diapause, and a wide range of other functions. The central organ for insect lipid metabolism is the fat body, which is analogous to mammalian adipose tissue and liver, albeit less structured. Various other systems including the midgut, brain, and neural organs also contribute functionally to insect lipid metabolism.

For the first time, recyclization of allomaltol derivatives with an amide fragment in the side chain were investigated. It was shown that the studied process leads to substituted tetronic acids bearing a pyrrolidinone moiety. The application of 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole and DBU is necessary for implementation of the considered reaction.

Article Synopsis
  • * The synthesis highlights that T90R4 shows stronger electrostatic interaction with chloroaurate ions compared to T701, which has a more spontaneous interaction due to its hydrophobic nature.
  • * Characterization methods (UV-vis, FTIR, XRD, TEM) reveal the composite's structure and optical properties, with the thin film effectively catalyzing electron transfer in organic reactions, influenced by the type of tetronic used as a stabilizer.

Human Adenovirus (HAdV) infections in immunocompromised patients can result in disseminated diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates due to the absence of available treatments for these infections. The sponge Ircinia felix was selected for the significant anti-HAdV activity displayed by its organic extracts. Its chemical analysis yielded three novel sesterterpene lactams, ircinialactams J-L, along with three known sesterterpene furans which structures were established by a deep spectrometric analysis.

The growing resistance of (L.) to conventional insecticides presents a major challenge in arbovirus control, necessitating the exploration of alternative insecticidal chemistries. Spiromesifen, derived from spirocyclic tetronic acids, is widely used against agricultural pests and is crucial in resistance management due to its unique lipid synthesis inhibition.
