In this study, a new lanthanum (III)-amino acid complex utilizing cysteine has been synthesized and characterized. The anticancer activities of the prepared La(III) complex against MCF-7 cell lines were studied. Results of MTT assay showed that at all three incubation times, the cytotoxic effect of prepared La(III) complex on MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines displays a time- and dose-dependent inhibitory effects. The interactions of the La(III) complex with two whey proteins (bovine serum albumin, BSA, and Bovine β-lactoglobulin, βLG) have been explored by using spectroscopic and molecular dicking methods. The obtained results indicated that La(III) complex strongly quenched the fluorescence of two carrier proteins in static quenching mode and also, BSA hah stronger binding affinity toward studied complex than βLG whit binding constant values of K ∼ 0.11 × 10 M and K ∼ 0.63 × 10 M at 300 K. The thermodynamic parameters revealed the contribution of hydrogen bond and Vander Waals interactions in both systems. The distances of the La(III) complex whit whey proteins were calculated using Förster energy transfer theory and proved existence of the energy transfer between two proteins and prepared La(III) complex with a high probability. FT-IR and UV-Vis absorption measurements indicated that the binding of the La(III) to BSA and βLG may induce conformational and micro-environmental changes of the proteins. The docking results indicate that the La(III) complex bind to residues located in the site II of BSA and second site of βLG. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

In the binuclear title complex, [La(CHO)(CHN)(HO)](NO)·0.5HO, the two lanthanum ions are nine coordinate in a distorted trigonal-prismatic geometry. Each La ion is bonded to three N atoms of the Schiff base, 1-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(pyridin-2-yl-methyl-ene)hydrazine and is coordinated by one acetate group, which acts in -bidentate mode and two acetate groups that act in -mode between the two La ions.

Bis-1,2,4-triazine ligands are amongst the most promising soft N-donor ligands for the partitioning of trivalent actinides from trivalent lanthanides; a key separation proposed in the future reprocessing of spent nuclear fuels. In an effort to improve the extraction properties of these benchmark ligands, we propose herein a general ligand design approach that is inspired by the field of drug discovery, and we apply it to a new class of ligands in which the bidentate 3-(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazine unit of the benchmark ligands is replaced by a bidentate 1,2,4-triazine-3-carboxamide unit. A series of nine novel ligands were synthesized by reactions of readily available ethyl 1,2,4-triazine-3-carboxylate building blocks with different polyamine cores and evaluated for their ability to extract and separate Am(III) and Cm(III) from Eu(III).

A novel Ce(III) complex with the triazole ligand 2b, which presents four H-bonded sites with amino acids of the MMP-2 receptor, was synthesized. The experimental IR and Raman spectra of this Ce(III) complex were well-interpreted based on their comparison to the theoretical scaled spectra using the scaling equations determined by two procedures and four density functional theory (DFT) levels. Therefore, the structure predicted for the synthesized Ce(III) complex was clearly characterized and confirmed.

Lanthanum (La(III)) is recognized for its ability to mitigate heavy metal stress in plants. However, the inorganic La(III) salts and lanthanum oxide nanoparticles (LaO NPs) extensively used in agriculture are prone to soil immobilization, thereby compromising their bioavailability and posing environmental risks. This study synthesized and characterized the lanthanum(III)-amino acid chelate (La(III)-AA) from soybean protein isolate (SPI) hydrolysates.

The material with high adsorption capacity and selectivity is essential for recovering rare earth elements (REE) from ammonium (NH-N)-rich wastewater. Although the emerging metal-organic framework (MOF) has gained intensive attention in REE recovery, there are scientific difficulties unsolved regarding restricted adsorption capacity and selectivity, hindering its extensive engineering applications. In this work, a diethylenetriamine pentaacetic (DTPA)-modified MOF material (MIL-101(Cr)-NH-DTPA) was prepared through an amidation reaction.
