Article Abstract

Laser-ablated Al atoms react with (CN) in excess argon during condensation at 4 K to produce AlNC, Al(NC), and Al(NC), which were computed (B3LYP) to be 27, 16, and 28 kJ/mol lower in energy, respectively, than their cyanide counterparts. Irradiation at 220-580 nm increased absorptions for the above molecules and the very stable Al(NC) anion. Annealing to 30, 35, and 40 K allowed for diffusion and reaction of trapped species and produced new bands for the Al(NC) dimers including a rhombic ring core (C)(AlN)(C) with C's attached to the N's, a (NC)Al(II)-Al(II)(NC) dimer with a computed Al-Al length of 2.557 Å, and the dibridged Al(NC) molecule with a calculated D structure and rhombic ring core like AlH. In contrast, the Al(NC) anion was destroyed on annealing presumably due to neutralization by Al. B3LYP calculations also show that aluminum chlorides form the analogous molecules and dimers. In our search for possible new products, we calculated Al(NC) and found it to be a stable molecule, but it was not detected here.

Atomically dispersed transition metal sites on nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts hold great potential for the electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) to CO due to their encouraging selectivity. However, their intrinsic activity is restricted by the hurdle of the high energy barrier of either *COOH formation or *CO desorption due to the scaling relationship. Herein, we discover a p-block aluminum single-atom catalyst (Al-NC) featuring an Al-N site that enables disentangling this hurdle, which endows a moderate reaction kinetic barrier for *COOH formation and *CO desorption, as validated by in situ attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy and theoretical simulations.

Synthesis and Reactivity of an Alumanyl-Tin Species to Form an Al,N-Heteroallene Derivative.

The molecular chemistry of metal-metal bonds is crucial for understanding the bonding and reactivity of metal-containing molecules as well as solid metals and their alloys, especially with respect to their application as catalysts for organic transformations and industrial processes. Despite the high efficiency of the recently developed nucleophilic alumanyl anions in the synthesis of diverse Al-metal bonds, the bonding between main group metals in a low oxidation state and the Al atom remains largely unexplored. This paper describes the reaction of an alumanyl anion with a chlorostannylene precursor to afford a compound with an unprecedented covalent Al-Sn bond.

Background And Objectives: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy is a standard procedure for patients with breast cancer and normal axilla on imaging. Positive SLNs on histological examination can lead to a subsequent surgery for axillary lymph node clearance (ALNC). Here we report a non-destructive technique based on autofluorescence (AF) imaging and Raman spectroscopy for intra-operative assessment of SLNs excised in breast cancer surgery.

Structural Evolution of Carbon-Doped Aluminum Clusters AlC ( = 6-15): Anion Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Theoretical Calculations.

Carbon-doped aluminum cluster anions, AlC ( = 6-15), were generated by laser vaporization and investigated by mass-selected anion photoelectron spectroscopy. The geometric structures of AlC ( = 6-15) anions were determined by the comparison of theoretical calculations with the experimental results. It is found that the most stable structure of AlC is a carbon endohedral triangular prism.
