The effect of ultrafine-grained size on creep behaviour was investigated in P92 steel. Ultrafine-grained steel was prepared by one revolution of high-pressure torsion at room temperature. Creep tensile tests were performed at 873 K under the initially-applied stress range between 50 and 160 MPa. The microstructure was investigated using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy equipped with an electron-back scatter detector. It was found that ultrafine-grained steel exhibits significantly faster minimum creep rates, and there was a decrease in the value of the stress exponent in comparison with coarse-grained P92 steel. Creep results also showed an abrupt decrease in the creep rate over time during the primary stage. The abrupt deceleration of the creep rate during the primary stage was shifted, with decreasing applied stress with longer creep times. The change in the decline of the creep rate during the primary stage was probably related to the enhanced precipitation of the Laves phase in the ultrafine-grained microstructure.

Description of steady-state creep rate with continuously varying stress sensitivity parameter and upper limits of applied stress.

The steady-state creep rate increases with working temperature according to the Arrhenius law and with applied stress according to the power law. The dependence on both the variables is usually expressed as the product of the Arrhenius law and the power law, where a constant value of the apparent activation energy is assumed. As the exponent of the power law, called the stress sensitivity parameter and dependent on the deformation micromechanism, a specific integer is taken.

Effect of Temperature and Stress on Creep Behavior of (TiB + TiC + YO)/α-Ti Composite.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

National Key Laboratory for Precision Hot Processing of Metals, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin 150001, China.

In this study, a (TiB + TiC + YO)/α-Ti composite was prepared by induction skull melting to investigate its creep behavior and microstructure evolution under different temperatures and stresses. The results show that the microstructure of the composite in the as-cast state is a basket-weave structure, and the main phase composition is α lamella, containing a small amount of β phase and equiaxed α phase. The creep life of the composite decreases significantly when the temperature is increased from 650 °C to 700 °C, and the steady-state creep rate is increased by 1 to 2 orders of magnitude.

Creep model of bond-degradation in deep granite based on variable radius particle clump.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Xincheng Gold Mine of Shandong Gold Mining Co., Ltd., Laizhou, 261400, Shandong, China.

The creep failure of rocks is related to its microstructure, external loading and time. A nonlinear yield model was introduced to describe the variation in the cohesion and friction angle with plastic strain and intergranular stress. The mechanical properties and creep characteristics of deep granite were obtained by indoor tests, and a variable radius particle clump model was constructed based on the particle flow method.

The effects of aging treatment and the volume fraction of precipitation particles on the nano-hardness and nano-indentation morphology of Ni-based single crystal superalloys are systematically investigated. Using nano-indentation tests and atomic force microscopy (AFM), this study examined the mechanical properties and related physical mechanisms of Ni-based superalloys that have two volume fractions of precipitation particles and four aging treatment times. Results analyzed using the Oliver-Pharr method indicate that prolonging the aging time or increasing the volume fraction of particles enhances the nano-hardness and creep resistance of Ni-based single crystal superalloys and reduces the indentation-affected area.
