In this work the HPLC and NMR analysis of the phenyl-ethanoid glycosides (PhGs) pattern of a cultivated exemplar of Verbascum thapsus L. (Scrophulariaceae) from the Etnean area (Sicily, Italy) was performed in order to verify their possible presence. Wild V. thapsus is well-known in ethnopharmacology due to the several beneficial effects that it is able to exert and which are primarily due to these compounds. So, it's extremely important that also cultivated exemplars of this species biosynthesize them in order to maintain their pharmacological properties. This study revealed the presence of seven PhGs in an unusual novel pattern. Thus, this exemplar is a very good potential source of this class of natural products and may be employed for several beneficial ethnopharmacological purposes.

Caves are a unique ecosystem that harbor diverse microorganisms, and provide a challenging environment to the dwelling microbial communities, which may boost gene expression and can lead to the production of inimitable bioactive natural products. In this study, we obtained 59 actinobacteria from four different caves located in Bahadurkhel, District Karak, Pakistan. On the basis of taxonomic characteristics, 30 isolates were selected and screened for secondary metabolites production and bioactivity profiling.

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with significant environmental factors, including diet, that influence its onset and progression. While the ketogenic diet (KD) holds promise in reducing metabolic risks and potentially affecting AD progression, only a few studies have explored the KD’s molecular impact for markers of AD therapeutic potential. The BEAM diet study simultaneously profiled the KD’s effect on the lipidome, blood and cerebrospinal metabolome, and microbiome of both cognitively impaired and cognitively normal individuals.

Two new polyacetylenes, (5,12)-14-hydroxytetradeca-5,12-dien-8,10-diyn-1-yl 3-methylbut-2-enoate () and 5, 1'-(6,12)-1-hydroxytetradeca-6,12-dien-8,10-diyn-5-yl 2-methylbutanoate (), together with two known ones, (2,8)-12--methylbutyryltetradeca-2,8-diene-4,6-diyne-1,14-diol (), and ()-5-[5-(but-3-en-1-yn-1-yl)thiophen-2-yl]pent-2-en-4-yn-1-yl acetate () were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the roots of by various chromatographic methods, such as normal phase silica gel column, MPLC, and semi-preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified by kinds of spectroscopic methods including 1D NMR, 2D NMR, IR, UV, HR-ESI-MS, and ECD. Compound exhibited cytotoxic activities in HepG2 and Huh7 cells with IC values of 20.

Chitosan (CS) is a versatile polysaccharide with numerous inherent biological activity, while the lack of amphiphilicity limits its application in emulsion-based systems. In this study, erythorbyl myristate (EM) with interfacial activity was chemically modified to 5-O-succinyl EM (EMS) and grafted onto CS to improve the emulsifying properties. The grafting reaction was conducted by the catalysis of protease, with the progress of the reaction monitored by HPLC analysis and UV absorbance measurement.
