Resveratrol is antioxidant naturally occurring in wine grapes. It is thought to have a preventive biological activity against number of diseases. However, it has been recently shown that in the presence of metal ions, such as Cu, resveratrol forms oxidative radicals. Cu is usually present in wine due to former usage of bluestone in vineyards. Fungicide tebuconazole has substituted bluestone and is presently one of the most widely used agrochemicals in wine industry; wine thus may contain traces of tebuconazole. Here, we study the ternary system of resveratrol, Cu, and tebuconazole experimentally and theoretically (using mass spectrometry, antioxidant capacity assay and quantum-chemical calculations) to model the redox behaviour of resveratrol in wine. We show that tebuconazole prevents formation of oxidative resveratrol radicals (induced by Cu reaction with resveratrol) via preferential Cu capture and protection of the binding sites of resveratrol. This positive effect of tebuconazole has not been observed before.

Resveratrol (RES), a natural polyphenolic compound, has garnered significant attention for its therapeutic potential in various pathological conditions. This review explores how RES modulates mitophagy-the selective autophagic degradation of mitochondria essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. RES promotes the initiation and execution of mitophagy by enhancing PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitochondrial clearance, reducing reactive oxygen species production, and mitigating apoptosis, thereby preserving mitochondrial integrity.

Natural stilbene compounds, such as resveratrol and pterostilbene, have been focused on owing to their diverse biological activities associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties. However, their low water solubility limits their advanced applications. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of selected stilbene compounds (resveratrol, oxyresveratrol, gnetol, piceatannol, and pterostilbene) and their water-soluble derivatives (piceid, resveratrol polysaccharide, pterostilbene trisaccharide, and pterostilbene polysaccharide) against UVA-, UVB irradiation, tertiary-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH)- and hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced injury in human epidermal cells.

With the development of medicine and chemistry, an increasing number of plant-derived medicines have been shown to exert beneficial therapeutic on the treatment of various physical and psychological diseases. In particular, by using physical chemistry methods, we are able to examine the chemical components of plants and the effects of these substances on the human body. Muscle atrophy (MA) is characterized by decreased muscle mass and function, is caused by multiple factors and severely affects the quality of life of patients.
