AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is involved in the development and progression of tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, studies on AMPK and tumorigenesis were largely based on experiments or tumor xenografts model. Here, we introduce a liver-specific AMPKα1 knockout mice model, which is achieved by Alb-Cre recombinase system. The expression of AMPKα1 in the liver of AMPKα1 -Alb-Cre mice is absent. AMPKα1 knockout in the liver does not affect the growth and histological structure of mouse liver. This model provides a favorable tool to the study of the roles of AMPKα1 in liver metabolism or tumorigenesis.

Ionizing radiation on the skin has the potential to cause various sequelae affecting quality of life and even leading to death due to multi-system failure. The development of radiation dermatitis is attributed to oxidative damage to the skin's basal layer and alterations in immune response, leading to inflammation. Past studies have shown that [18F]F-2-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography ([18F]F-FDG PET/CT) can be used effectively for the detection of inflammatory activity, especially in conditions like hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, and early atherosclerosis.

The common cold coronaviruses are a source of ongoing morbidity and mortality particularly among elderly and immunocompromised individuals. While cross-reactive immune responses against multiple coronaviruses have been described following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and vaccination, it remains unclear if these confer any degree of cross-protection against the common cold coronaviruses. A recombinant fowl adenovirus vaccine expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (FAdV-9-S19) was generated, and protection from SARS-CoV-2 challenge was shown in K18-hACE2 mice.

Unlabelled: Respiratory and encephalitic virus infections represent a significant risk to public health globally. Detailed investigations of immunological responses and disease outcomes during sequential virus infections are rare. Here, we define the impact of influenza virus infection on a subsequent virus encephalitis.

Preeclampsia (PE) is the most threatening pathology of human pregnancy. Placenta from PE patients releases harmful factors that contribute to the exacerbation of the disease. Among these factors is the prokineticin1 (PROK1) and its receptor, PROKR2 that we identified as a mediators of PE.

Serum uric acid is an end-product of purine metabolism. Uric acid concentrations in excess of the physiological range may lead to diseases such as gout, cardiovascular disease, and kidney injury. The kidney includes a variety of cell types with specialized functions such as fluid and electrolyte homeostasis, detoxification, and endocrine functions.
