Protein fibrillation is involved in many serious diseases, and protein oligomers are proved to be precursors of amyloid fibrils. NMR and QCMD experiments allowed us to establish that the interaction between citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles and a paradigmatic amyloidogenic protein, β2-microglobulin, is able to interfere with protein association into oligomers.

Background: With the help of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), cells can be magnetically directed so that they can be accumulated at target sites. This principle can be used to make monocytes magnetically steerable in order to improve tumor accumulation, e.g.

Photopolymerization of bovine serum albumin was carried out using reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by the irradiation of citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The ROS in this case, singlet oxygen (O), targets aromatic amino acids within the protein to induce photopolymerization or crosslinking. Other ROS, like the hydroxyl radical, can also form in solution and under high-energy irradiation.

Fluphenazine (FPZ) is a well-known neuroleptic that has attracted considerable scientific interest due to its biocidal, virucidal, and antitumor properties. Although methods for encapsulating and delivering FPZ to enhance its activity and reduce side effects have been developed, there is still limited knowledge about its conjugates with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Therefore, the aim of this research was to develop a preparation method for stable FPZ-AuNP conjugates and to investigate their physicochemical and biological properties.

In this paper, we present a facile yet effective method for the fabrication of core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) of magnetite (FeO) and polydopamine (FeO@PDA) and their decoration with a tunable amount of gold NPs (AuNPs). For this, FeO NPs were fabricated through the polyol method and AuNPs were deposited onto FeO@PDA via anchoring of as-prepared citrate-stabilized AuNPs or reduction of Au ions. PDA with its numerous catechol groups enabled the decoration of AuNPs in a well-controlled manner.

Research on gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) remains a field of intense activity due to their broad range of applications in diverse fields like catalysis, renewable energy, environmental science, and medicine. Herein, the morphological and electronic structures investigation of Au NPs prepared at different pH values is reported. The dependence of the localized surface plasmon resonance wavelength and electronic structure with size was determined by combining transmission electron microscopy, and various spectroscopic methods led by X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
