The former is an extremely abundant species, whereas the latter has only one known male specimen. is proposed and represented by two new species, (type species) and , both from the state of Minas Gerais. Morphology of genitalia in is similar to other Theridiosomatidae genera and is herein discussed. None of the proposed species presents troglomorphic adaptations. They are widespread, abundant inside caves in different and large karst areas, and each genus prefers different lithologies.

Detection of Trypanosoma cruzi DNA in blood by PCR is associated with Chagas cardiomyopathy and disease severity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between Trypanosoma cruzi DNA detection in blood and the severity of Chagas heart disease, particularly in antibody-positive patients.
  • Researchers conducted a case-control study with 499 seropositive blood donors and 101 patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy, using health assessments and PCR testing to analyze T. cruzi DNA presence.
  • Findings show that higher rates of T. cruzi DNA detection correlate with more severe cardiomyopathy, indicating that the parasite's persistence may contribute to the progression of the disease.

We have examined the male-specific phylogeography of the Levant and its surroundings by analyzing Y-chromosomal haplogroup distributions using 5874 samples (885 new) from 23 countries. The diversity within some of these haplogroups was also examined. The Levantine populations showed clustering in SNP and STR analyses when considered against a broad Middle-East and North African background.
