Disused mines and mining legacy require significant manpower to ameliorate the contaminated environmental surroundings following their disbanding coupled with extraordinary funding to manage these issues. Water (pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductance, metals, sulphate) and total suspended solids (TSS) quality are environmental parameters that are affected by legacy mining activity and often require monitoring and rapid response if events (e.g. rainfall) occur which might affect the surrounding areas. In this study, we have monitored a famous mine site in Queensland, Australia for a number of water and sediment parameters known to be associated with acid mine drainage. This study performed analysis of water and sediment over three years, as well as rainfall data. Principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) regression was undertaken to investigate the data obtained. It was found that the use of PCA can predict the effect of year and site on the environmental influence of the abandoned mine site, based on the combination of chemical properties and meteorological data.

Lactic acid bacteria are widely regarded as safe alternatives to antibiotics in livestock and poultry farming and have probiotic potential. () is a prominent component of pigeon crop microbiota; however, its function is unknown. In this study, a strain of 1003 from pigeon cecum was identified by combining whole genome sequencing and phenotypic analysis, and its safety and probiotic properties were studied.

Heavy metals released from metallic sulfidic tailings pose significant environmental threats by contaminating surface and groundwater in mining areas. Sustainable rehabilitation methods are essential to remove or stabilize these metals, improving the quality of acid mine drainage and minimizing pollution. This study examines the adsorption capacity of zinc ions (Zn) by different iron-silicate mineral groups under natural weathering and bacteria-regulated weathered conditions.

Biodegradable plastics (BPs) and lignite, both rich in organic matter, present significant challenges for efficient conversion into clean energy. This study examined the anaerobic co-digestion of BPs and lignite under controlled laboratory conditions. The results demonstrated that the co-digestion of polylactic acid (PLA) and lignite (at a 1:2 mass ratio, with 5 g PLA and 10 g lignite as the model system) rapidly acclimated to the anaerobic environment, enhancing cumulative biogas production by 57 % compared to the mono-digestion of lignite alone.

Background: Disorders of lipid metabolism are critical factors in the progression of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). However, the characteristics of lipid metabolism and related regulatory mechanisms of CLL remain unclear.

Methods: Hence, we identified altered metabolites and aberrant lipid metabolism pathways in patients with CLL by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based non-targeted lipidomics.

The application of nanocomposites based on polyacrylamide hydrogels as well as silica nanoparticles in various tasks related to the petroleum industry has been rapidly developing in the last 10-15 years. Analysis of the literature has shown that the introduction of nanoparticles into hydrogels significantly increases their structural and mechanical characteristics and improves their thermal stability. Nanocomposites based on hydrogels are used in different technological processes of oil production: for conformance control, water shutoff in production wells, and well killing with loss circulation control.
