Vanadium slag is a by-product from steelmaking process of vanadium-titanium magnetite, which mainly contains FeO, MnO, VO, and CrO, The elements Fe and Mn are major components of Mn-Zn ferrite. The elements V and Cr are major components of V-Cr alloy. In view of the potential application in these study, a MnZnFeO of high saturation magnetization (Ms = 68.6 emu/g) and low coercivity (Hc = 3.3 Oe) was successfully synthesized from the leaching solutions of vanadium slag by adding appropriate chemical reagents, ZnCl and MnCl·4HO, via roasting at 1300 °C for 1 h. The minor components (CaO and SiO) in the leaching solution of vanadium slag segregated to the grain boundaries resulting in increasing the resistivity of ferrite. The value of DC resistivity of MnZnFeO at 25 °C reached 1230.7Ω m. The residue containing Fe, V and Cr was chlorinated by AlCl and the Fe, V, and Cr ions were released into the NaCl-KCl eutectic. The current-time curve for the electrolysis of molten salt was investigated. Alloy (Fe, V, and Cr) of granular shape was obtained. The residue can be used to produce the mulite. This process provided a new approach to utilize slag from steelmaking.

Vanadium precipitation is the key step in producing vanadium products from vanadium solution. The sustainable development of the vanadium industry requires new environmentally friendly processes for vanadium precipitation. In this study, NaVO solution was pretreated with manganese salt to preliminarily separate the vanadium and sodium components.

Biomineralization techniques have been utilized to remediate heavy metals (HMs) contaminated environments. However, the effect of microbial-induced phosphate precipitation (MIPP) on HMs behavior in vanadium tailing slags has not been revealed. This study is the first to report the influence of MIPP on multiple HMs including Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in the slags with and without soil mixing.

Titanium-bearing blast furnace slag (TBFS) is formed during the smelting of vanadium-titanium magnetite ore, containing more than 10 wt % Ti. The metal resource in TBFS has not yet been utilized because of the difficulty of extracting the objective phase from the complex eutectic. In this work, thermodynamic and experimental studies of selective leaching of diopside phase in TBFS in 20 wt % HSO were conducted.

Entrained flow gasification provides a more efficient utilization method for high-sulfur petroleum coke. The operation temperature of the entrained flow gasifier must be above the ash fusion temperature (AFT) of petroleum coke due to the liquid slag discharge. In this work, petroleum coke was blended with high-calcium coal and high-iron coal, respectively, under a reducing atmosphere, and the variations in AFTs were recorded by an ash fusion temperature analyzer.
