This paper demonstrates the ability of diamond sensors to respond to beta radiation. A Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) single crystal diamond was used in this work. The diamond crystal has a dimension of 4.5×4.5 by 0.5 mm thick. Metal contacts were fabricated on both sides of the diamond using titanium and palladium metals with thicknesses of 50 nm and 150 nm, respectively. The energy response of the diamond sensor was experimentally measured using three beta isotopes that cover the entire range of beta energy: Pm, a weak beta radiation with a maximum energy of 0.225 MeV, °Tl, a medium energy beta radiation with a maximum energy of 0.763 MeV, and °Sr/°Y, with both a medium energy beta radiation with a maximum energy of 0.546 MeV, and a high energy beta radiation with a maximum energy of 2.274 MeV. The beta measurements indicate that diamond sensors are sensitive to beta radiation and are suitable for beta spectroscopy. This is important in estimating dose since diamond is tissue equivalent, and the absorbed dose is easily determined from the energy and the mass of the active volume. The high energy betas from °Tl and Sr/Y penetrates the sensor without depositing sufficient energy in the active area because their range is larger than the thickness of sensor. The sensitivity of the detector is limited because of its small volume and can be improved by combining smaller area sensors since growing large size diamond is currently a challenge.

The electrical conductivity and antibacterial properties are crucial characteristics for bacterial cellulose (BC) based membranes to be broadly applied in the field of wearable electronics. In the study, to achieve these aims, alpha-lipoic acid (LA) was utilized as anchoring groups and reducing agent, hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) capped magnetic particles (FeO NPs) and the in-situ formed silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were sequentially incorporated into the BC matrix to fabricate BC based nanocomposite membranes (HP-β-CD/FeO/LA@BC and HP-β-CD/FeO/LA/Ag@BC). Fourier transform attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis proved the dense networks were formed in the modified BC membranes.

Background: Breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) are instrumental in treatment resistance, recurrence, and metastasis. The development of breast cancer and radiation sensitivity is intimately pertinent to long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). This work is formulated to investigate how the lncRNA affects the stemness and radioresistance of BCSCs.

Variable relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of carbon radiotherapy may be calculated using several models, including the microdosimetric kinetic model (MKM), stochastic MKM (SMKM), repair-misrepair-fixation (RMF) model, and local effect model I (LEM), which have not been thoroughly compared. In this work, we compared how these four models handle carbon beam fragmentation, providing insight into where model differences arise. Monoenergetic and spread-out Bragg peak carbon beams incident on a water phantom were simulated using Monte Carlo.

: Alpha radionuclide therapy has emerged as a promising novel strategy for cancer treatment; however, the therapeutic potential of Ac-labeled peptides in pancreatic cancer remains uninvestigated. : In the cytotoxicity study, tumor cells were incubated with Ac-DOTA-RGD. DNA damage responses (γH2AX and 53BP1) were detected using flowcytometry or immunohistochemistry analysis.

(1) : Targeted alpha therapy is an emerging field in nuclear medicine driven by two advantages: overcoming resistance in cancer-suffering patients to beta therapies and the practical application of lower activities of Pb- and Ac-labelled peptides to achieve the same doses compared to beta therapy due to the highly cytotoxic nature of alpha particles. However, quality control of the Pb/Ac-radiopharmaceuticals remains a challenge due to the low activity levels used for therapy (100 kBq/kg) and the formation of several free daughter nuclides immediately after the formulation of patient doses; (2) : The routine alpha detection on thin-layer chromatograms (TLC) of Pb- and Ac-labelled peptides using a MiniScanPRO+ scanner combined with an alpha detector head was compared with detection using an AR-2000 scanner equipped with an open proportional counter tube. Measurement time, resolution and validity were compared for both scanners; (3) : For Ac, the quality control values of the radiochemical purity (RCP) were within the acceptance criteria 2 h after TLC development, regardless of when the TLC probe was taken.
