Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the major factors affecting fatigue symptoms and to examine the relationships between fatigue symptoms and subjective and objective indicators in patients on hemodialysis (HD).
Methods: Patients on HD who met the inclusion criteria were chosen from two grade A tertiary general hospitals by convenience sampling and cross-sectional survey methods.
Results: A total of 511 patients were included in the study. The morbidity rate of fatigue in patients on HD was 61.6%, and the median fatigue level was 3.91. Fatigue and subjective indicators showed a mild-moderate relationship (0.3 < all |r| < 0.6, all P < 0.001), whereas a weak correlation was found between fatigue and objective indicators (all |r| < 0.2, all P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that subjective indicators, including employment, exercise time, appetite, the vitality of 36-item Short Form Health Survey, perceived social support, intrafamilial support, cramping, headache, chest tightness, and whole-body pain, as well objective indicator, such as serum intact parathyroid hormone levels, were the influence factors of fatigue in patients on HD.
Conclusion: The prevalence of fatigue symptoms was high and the level of fatigue was moderate in patients on HD. Subjective and objective indicators can both affect fatigue symptoms in patients on HD.

Developing sustainable structural materials to replace traditional carbon-intensive structural materials fundamentally reshapes the concept of circular development. Herein, we propose an interface engineering strategy that utilizes water as a liquid medium to replace the residual air within natural wood. This approach minimizes the absorption of water-based softening agents by microcapillary channels of wood, enabling the controlled softening of the cell walls.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome caused by hypersecretion of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) by typically benign phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors (PMTs). FGF23 excess causes chronic hypophosphatemia through renal phosphate losses and decreased production of 1,25-dihydroxy-vitamin-D. TIO presents with symptoms of chronic hypophosphatemia including fatigue, bone pain, weakness, and fractures.

Background: The quality of life (QOL) of ovarian cancer patients is often impaired by refractory ascites. Cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is a palliative treatment for refractory ascites, but adverse events, such as fever, are problematic. Several cytokines have been suggested to be responsible for the adverse events, but they have not been investigated in detail.

Natural materials with highly oriented heterogeneous structures are often lightweight but strong, stiff but tough and durable. Such an integration of diverse incompatible mechanical properties is highly desired for man-made materials, especially weak hydrogels which are lack of high-precision structural design. Herein, we demonstrate the fabrication of hierarchically aligned heterogeneous hydrogels consisting of a compactly crosslinked sheath and an aligned porous core with alignments of nanofibrils at multi-scales by a sequential self-assembly assisted salting out method.
