Two new β-carboline alkaloids, 1-acetyl-4-methoxy-8-hydroxy-β-carboline (1) and 1-acetyl-4,8-dimethoxy-β-carboline (2), together with 10 known compounds; seven β-carboline alkaloids (3-9), two canthin-6-one alkaloids (10 and 11), and one quassinoid (12) were isolated from the stems of Picrasma quassioides. The structure of the new compounds 1 and 2 were determined by spectroscopic analyses including 1D- and 2D-NMR and HRMS interpretation. All the isolates (1-12) were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against human ovarian carcinoma A2780 and SKOV3 cell lines using MTT assays. Of the isolates, compounds 5-7 exhibited the most potent cytotoxicity on both A2780 and SKOV3 cell lines in vitro.

The relationship between nanoliposomal irinotecan/fluorouracil/leucovorin (NFF) treatment outcomes and neutropenia in patients with pancreatic cancer has not been thoroughly examined. Thus, we conducted a retrospective analysis of data from patients with pancreatic cancer who were treated with NFF to investigate this relationship. Neutropenia was assessed according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events across three cutoffs: A (grade 0 versus grade 1-4), B (grades 0-1 versus 2-4), and C (grades 0-2 versus 3-4).

The magnetization strategy of isoquinoline alkaloids has been successfully used in the extraction and isolation, but the effect of the magnetization on biological activities of those alkaloids still deserves further investigation. Therefore, the antibacterial, lipid-lowering and antioxidant activities of five isoquinoline alkaloids (berberine, tetrahydroberberine, palmatine, tetrahydropalmatine and tetrahydropapavine) before and after magnetization were compared in this study, and the results showed that the relevant activities were enhanced after magnetization. Additionally, among the five magnetic derivatives studied, berberine magnetic derivative ([Ber·H][FeCl]) had the best antibacterial effect on S.

Patients suffering epilepsy caused by the gain-of-function mutants of the hKCNT1 potassium channels are drug refractory. In this study, we cloned a novel human KCNT1B channel isoform using the brain cDNA library and conducted patch-clamp and molecular docking analyses to characterize the pharmacological properties of the hKCNT1B channel using thirteen drugs. Among cinchona alkaloids, we found that hydroquinine exerted the strongest blocking effect on the hKCNT1B channel, especially the F313L mutant.

One of the successful techniques developed for the inhibition of metal corrosion is the utilization of phytochemicals from plant extracts as corrosion inhibitors. Theoretical studies are utilized to predict how organic components behave on metal surfaces and can pave the way for the development and synthesis of innovative, efficient corrosion inhibitors. However, atomic-level insights into the inhibition mechanisms of these green components are still needed.
