We have recently demonstrated the expression of embryonic stem cell markers on the endothelium of infantile hemangioma, a functional hemogenic endothelium with the capacity for primitive erythropoiesis . Despite recent work characterizing stem cells within proliferating infantile hemangioma, the expression of STAT proteins, well documented for their roles in stem cell signaling, has not been investigated. 3,3-Diaminobenzidine and immunofluorescence immunohistochemical staining revealed expression of pSTAT1, pSTAT3 and pSTAT5 in proliferating infantile hemangioma samples with the strongest expression of pSTAT3. There was reduced expression of these pSTAT proteins in the involuted infantile hemangioma samples. Western blotting confirmed the identification of all these three proteins in proliferating infantile hemangioma. It is therefore not surprising that the phosphorylated/activated forms of these proteins are relatively abundantly expressed in proliferating, in comparison to involuted infantile hemangioma samples. We speculate that the reduced STAT activation, as infantile hemangioma involutes, is a reflection of the depletion of the abundant stem cells within proliferating infantile hemangioma, as the lesion involutes.

Introduction: Retinal capillary hemangioma (RCH) is a benign vascular hamartoma that can occur sporadically or as a manifestation of Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. If left untreated, it results in adverse ocular complications depending on its location and eventual visual loss.

Case Presentation: We present a 50-year-old man who was a known case of VHL with history of left eye vision loss in the left eye at the age of 30 years.

Primary intrarenal hemangioma - A series of 39 cases.

Ann Diagn Pathol

January 2025

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, USA. Electronic address:

Intrarenal hemangiomas lack concise clinicopathologic information, due to the predominance of single case reports and inclusion of other vascular neoplasms and hemangiomas of perirenal, hilar, and renal vein origin. Herein, in this multi-institutional study we evaluate clinicopathologic features of 39 intrarenal hemangiomas. The median age was 62 years (range = 27-94 years; 2:1 male to female ratio), with left-sided predominance (left = 21, right = 13; one case was bilateral).

Introduction And Aim: Propranolol is an effective treatment option for infantile hemangiomas, but there is still insufficient information about neurodevelopmental side effects of propranolol. In our study, the neurodevelopmental levels of infantile hemangioma patients receiving propranolol treatment were examined using the Bayley-III test.

Method: In our single-center, cross-sectional study, patients were recruited between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2023.
