Article Synopsis
  • Alopecia areata (AA) causes significant discomfort for patients, and the study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and pain levels of a new treatment method using microneedles for delivering betamethasone compared to traditional injections.
  • The randomized trial included 80 patients with mild-to-moderate AA, showing similar reductions in hair loss (measured by SALT score) between both treatment groups after three months, but with notably less pain reported in the microneedle group.
  • While both treatments were effective, the study's limitations include a focus solely on mild-to-moderate cases, leaving out information on how these methods work for more severe forms of AA.

Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) of the lips are associated with an increased risk of incomplete involution and ulceration, causing disfigurement. Treatment with oral propranolol (OPT) has credible efficacy but takes months to complete. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the efficacy of intralesional betamethasone injection (IBI) as an alternative treatment for protruding localized IHs of the lips.

Hypertrophic scar (HS) is an unfavorable skin disorder that typically develops after trauma, burn injury, or surgical procedures and causes numerous physical and psychological issues in patients. Currently, intralesional multi-injection of corticosteroid, particularly compound betamethasone (CB), is one of the most prevalent treatments for HS. However, injection administration could result in severe pain and dose-related side effects.
