The nature of magnetic correlation at low temperature in two-dimensional artificial magnetic honeycomb lattice is a strongly debated issue. While theoretical researches suggest that the system will develop a novel zero entropy spin solid state as → 0 K, a confirmation to this effect in artificial honeycomb lattice of connected elements is lacking. This study reports on the investigation of magnetic correlation in newly designed artificial permalloy honeycomb lattice of ultrasmall elements, with a typical length of ≈12 nm, using neutron scattering measurements and temperature-dependent micromagnetic simulations. Numerical modeling of the polarized neutron reflectometry data elucidates the temperature-dependent evolution of spin correlation in this system. As temperature reduces to ≈7 K, the system tends to develop novel spin solid state, manifested by the alternating distribution of magnetic vortex loops of opposite chiralities. Experimental results are complemented by temperature-dependent micromagnetic simulations that confirm the dominance of spin solid state over local magnetic charge ordered state in the artificial honeycomb lattice with connected elements. These results enable a direct investigation of novel spin solid correlation in the connected honeycomb geometry of 2D artificial structure.

Aurophilic interaction-based aggregation of gem-digold(I) aryls towards high spin-orbit coupling and strong phosphorescence.

Luminescent gold(I) compounds have attracted intensive attention due to anticipated strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) resulting from heavy atom effect of gold atoms. However, some mononuclear gold(I) compounds are barely satisfactory. Here, we unveil that low participation of gold in transition-related orbitals, caused by 6s-π symmetry mismatch, is the cause of low SOCs in monogold(I) compounds.

An exotic quantum mechanical ground state, i.e. the nonmagnetic= 0 state, has been predicted for higher transition metal tsystems, due to the influence of strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) or in other words, due to unquenched orbital moment contribution.

The magnetic properties of solids are typically analyzed in terms of Heisenberg models where the electronic structure is approximated by interacting localized spins. However, even in such models the evaluation of thermodynamic properties constitutes a major challenge and is usually handled by a mean field decoupling scheme. The random phase approximation (RPA) comprises a common approach and is often applied to evaluate critical temperatures although it is well known that the method is only accurate well below the critical temperature.

A search for switchable molecules has afforded a family of cobalt complexes featuring derivatives of 2-aminophenol: 4,6-di--butyl aminophenol (HL) and 2-anilino-4,6-di--butyl aminophenol (HL). The heteroleptic cobalt complexes incorporate a Metpa ligand (tpa = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine; = 0-3), which involves the methylation of the 6-position of the pyridine ring). Eight members of this family have been synthesized and characterized: [Co(HL)(tpa)](BPh) (), [Co(HL)(Metpa)](BPh) (), [Co(L)(Metpa)](BPh) (), [Co(HL)(Metpa)](BPh) (), [Co(L)(Metpa)](BPh) (), [Co(HL)(tpa)] (BPh)(ClO) (), [Co(L)(tpa)](BPh)(ClO) () and [Co(HL)(Metpa)](BPh) (), where the aminophenol-derived ligands are monoanionic in either the open shell radical iminosemiquinonate (L) or the closed shell protonated aminophenolate (HL).

In solid-state NMR, dipolar-based heteronuclear polarization transfer has been extensively used for sensitivity enhancement and multidimensional correlations, but its efficiency often suffers from undesired spin interactions and hardware limitations. Herein, we propose a novel dipolar-echo edited R-symmetry (DEER) sequence, which is further incorporated into the INEPT-type scheme, dubbed DEER-INEPT, for achieving highly efficient heteronuclear polarization transfer. Numerical simulations and NMR experiments demonstrate that DEER-INEPT offers significantly improved robustness, enabling efficient polarization transfer under a wide range of MAS conditions, from slow to ultrafast rates, outperforming existing methods.
