Article Abstract
Thermal sensing with fine spatial resolution is important to the study of many scientific areas. While modern microscopy systems allow optical detection at high spatial resolution, their intrinsic functions are mainly focused on imaging but limited in detecting other physical parameters, for example, mapping thermal variations. Here, with a coating of an optical exceptional point structure, we demonstrate a low-cost but efficient multifunctional microscope slide, supporting real-time monitoring and mapping of temperature distribution and heat transport in addition to conventional microscopic imaging. The square-root dependency associated with an exceptional point leads to enhanced thermal sensitivity for precise temperature measurement. With a microscale resolution, real-time thermal mapping is conducted, showing dynamic temperature variation in a spatially defined area. Our strategy of integrating low-cost and efficient optical sensing technologies on a conventional glass slide enables simultaneous detection of multiple environmental parameters, producing improved experimental control at the microscale in various scientific disciplines.

We have investigated the effect of length and chemical structure of phospholipid tails on the spontaneous formation of unilamellar liposomal vesicles in binary solute mixtures of cationic drug surfactant and zwitterionic phosphatidylcholine phospholipids. Binary drug surfactant-phospholipid mixtures with four different phospholipids with identical headgroups (two saturated phospholipids 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC, 14:0) and 1,2-Dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC, 16:0), and two unsaturated lipids 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC, 18:1) and 1,2-Dierucoyl-sn-Glycero-3-Phosphatidylcholine (DEPC, 22:1)) combined with two different tricyclic antidepressant drugs (amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMT) and doxepin hydrochloride (DXP)) have been investigated with small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can originate from a variety of reasons, including water pollution coming from agriculture, effluent from treatment plants, sewage system leaks, pH and light levels, and the consequences of climate change. In recent years, HAB events have become a serious environmental problem, paralleling population growth, agricultural development, increasing air temperatures, and declining precipitation. Hence, it is crucial to identify the mechanisms responsible for the formation of HABs, accurately assess their short- and long-term impacts, and quantify their variations based on climate projections for developing accurate action plans and effectively managing resources.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fibers exhibit high inertness and demonstrate limited interfacial bonding capabilities with other materials. To overcome this limitation, PTFE@ZnO fibers were developed by depositing the porous ZnO layer onto PTFE fibers via a hydrothermal reaction, and porous fibers were adsorbed curing agents or initiators. The interfacial shear strength (ILSS) of the composites demonstrated a significant improvement, particularly in the case of composites containing PTFE/initiator fibers, where the ILSS increased by 104.
