In this present work, we report on the synthesis of micron-sized LiMnFePO (LMFP) mesocrystals via a solvothermal method with varying pH and precursor ratios. The morphologies of resultant LMFP secondary particles are classified into two major classes, flakes and ellipsoids, both of which are featured by the mesocrystalline aggregates where the primary particles constituting LMFP secondary particles are crystallographically aligned. Assessment of the battery performance reveals that the flake-shaped LMFP mesocrystals exhibit a specific capacity and rate capability superior to those of other mesocrystals. The origin of the enhanced electrochemical performance is investigated in terms of primary particle size, pore structure, antisite-defect concentration, and secondary particle shape. It is shown that the shape of the secondary particle has just as much of a significant effect on the battery performance as the crystallite size and antisite defects do. We believe that this work provides a rule of design for electrochemically favorable meso/nanostructures, which is of great potential for improving battery performance by tuning the morphology of particles on multilength scales.

The recovery of valuable materials from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has experienced increasing demand in recent years. Current recycling technologies are typically energy-intensive and are often plagued by high operation costs, low processing efficiency, and environmental pollution concerns. In this study, an efficient and environmentally friendly dielectrophoresis (DEP)-based approach is proposed to separate the main components of "black mass" mixtures from LIBs, specifically lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and graphite, based on their polarizability differences.

Among the various solid electrolytes, argyrodite thiophosphates Li6PS5X (X = Cl, Br, I) stand out due to their high ionic conductivity, structural flexibility, and compatibility with a range of electrode materials, making them ideal candidates for efficient and scalable battery applications. However, despite significant performance advancements, the sustainability and recycling of ASSBs remain underexplored, posing a critical challenge for achieving efficient circular processes.

The electrocatalytic conversion of 16-electron multistep polysulfides is crucial for lithium-sulfur batteries, while it is hard to achieve compatibility between intricate sulfur reduction processes and appropriate catalysts. Herein, a tandem conversion strategy is reported to boost multi-step intermediate reactions of polysulfides transformation by designing an electrocatalyst featuring cobalt and zinc sites (Co/Zn), where the Zn serve as sites for the conversion of long-chain lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), promoting the transformation of S to LiS; the Co sites accelerate the kinetics of the subsequent reduction of LiS. This tandem catalysis method not only enhances the conversion of the initial reactants but also provides additional support for the intermediates, thereby facilitating subsequent reactions to maximize capacity.

Owing to its abundant manganese source, high operating voltage, and good ionic diffusivity attributed to its 3D Li-ion diffusion channels. Spinel LiMnO is considered a promising low-cost positive electrode material in the context of reducing scarce elements such as cobalt and nickel from advanced lithium-ion batteries. However, the rapid capacity degradation and inadequate rate capabilities induced by the Jahn-Teller distortion and the manganese dissolution have limited the large-scale adoption of spinel LiMnO for decades.

Anode-free all solid-state batteries (AF-ASSBs) employ "empty" current collector with three active interfaces that determine electrochemical stability; lithium metal - Solid electrolyte (SE) interphase (SEI-1), lithium - current collector interface, and collector - SE interphase (SEI-2). Argyrodite LiPSCl (LPSCl) solid electrolyte (SE) displays SEI-2 containing copper sulfides, formed even at open circuit. Bilayer of 140 nm magnesium/30 nm tungsten (Mg/W-Cu) controls the three interfaces and allows for state-of-the-art electrochemical performance in half-cells and fullcells.
