A chair of gold: Analogous to cyclohexane, the trinuclear gold ring [Au (PAnP) ][ClO ] (PAnP=9,10-bis(diphenylphosphino)anthracene) shows a chair conformation and diastereotopic axial and equatorial phenyl rings. Variable temperature and 2D EXSY NMR studies reveal that the gold ring undergoes cyclohexane-like ring inversion (enantiomerization) in solution. In addition, the gold ring exhibits intense excimeric emission at room temperature. - = anthracene ring system in PAnP, ○ = ClO .

Background: There are no approved oral disease-modifying treatments for Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess efficacy and safety of blarcamesine (ANAVEX®2-73), an orally available small-molecule activator of the sigma-1 receptor (SIGMAR1) in early AD through restoration of cellular homeostasis including autophagy enhancement.

Design: ANAVEX2-73-AD-004 was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 48-week Phase IIb/III trial.

We present a novel photoreconfigurable metasurface designed for independent and efficient control of electromagnetic waves with identical incident polarization and frequency across the entire spatial domain. The proposed metasurface features a three-layer architecture: a top layer incorporating a gold circular split ring resonator (CSRR) filled with perovskite material and dual -shaped perovskite resonators; a middle layer of polyimide dielectric; and a bottom layer comprising a perovskite substrate with an oppositely oriented circular split ring resonator filled with gold. By modulating the intensity of a laser beam, we achieve autonomous manipulation of incident circularly polarized terahertz waves in both transmission and reflection modes.

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are one of the most dangerous persistent organic pollutants in the environment. Due to the discharge of chemical plants and domestic water, the existence of PAHs in sea water and lake water is harmful to human health. A method for rapid detection and removal of PAHs in water needs to be developed.

Sulfur functionalized diamondoid phosphines enable building nanocomposites interfacing sp-carbon and gold nanolayers.

Interfacing metal frameworks with carbon-based materials is attractive for the bottom-up construction of nanocomposite functional materials. The stepwise layering of difunctionalized diamantanes and gold metal from physical and chemical vapor deposition for the preparation of nanocomposites inverts the conventional preparation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and self-assemblies, where the metal is introduced first, and this method delivers metal surfaces with modified properties originating from the sp-carbon core. However, appropriate diamondoid candidates for such an approach are rare.

Gold nanobowls (AuNBs) synthesized by the template-free method were deposited on graphene oxide (GO) to obtain an ultrasensitive surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) platform for folic acid (FA) detection. GO was conditioned in aqueous solutions at various pH values to optimize the adsorption of the FA molecule and the intensity of the SERS signal. It was found that the conditioning procedure influences the orientation of FA on the SERS supports and the quality of the spectra in result.
