Functioning as a bidentate ligand toward Lewis acids, dibismuthane forms bisadducts of the type [R M] [Bi R$\rm{^{\prime }_{4}}$] with R M=tBu Al (1) and tBu Ga (2; structure depicted; R'=Et), which were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of high- and low-spin dicobalt complexes of the PNNP expanded pincer ligand. Reacting this dinucleating ligand in its neutral form with two equiv of CoCl(tetrahydrofuran) yields a high-spin dicobalt complex featuring one Co inside and one Co outside of the dinucleating pocket. Performing the same reaction in the presence of two equivalents of KOtBu provides access to a high-spin dicobalt complex wherein both Co centers are bound within the PNNP pocket, and this complex also features a bridging OtBu ligand.

Functional pincer ligands that engage in metal-ligand cooperativity and/or are capable of redox non-innocence have found a great deal of success in catalysis. These two properties may be found in metal complexes of the 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine (bpp) ligands. With this goal in mind, we have attempted the coordination of 2,6-bis(5-trifluoromethylpyrazol-3-yl)pyridine (LCF3) and its Bu analogue 2,6-bis(5--butylpyrazol-3-yl)pyridine (LtBu) to Mo(0) by reactions with mixed phosphine/carbonyl complexes [Mo(CO)(MeCN)(PMePh)] 1-3 (1 ≤ ≤ 3).

Solvent-Dependent C(sp)-CF Reductive Elimination from Neutral Four-Coordinate Cu(III) Complexes.

A solvent dependent C(sp)-CF bond-forming reductive elimination from neutral four-coordinate Cu(III) complexes [(L)Cu(CF)(CHCO Bu)] (L=pyridine or its derivatives) is described. Reactions in less polar solvent ClCHCHCl proceed via a concerted bond breaking/bond forming process along with the reorientation of the ligand, while reaction in polar solvent DMF occurs via a rate limiting ligand-dissociation, followed by C(sp)-CF reductive elimination from the resulting three-coordinate intermediate. These mechanistic proposals are supported by kinetic studies that included ligand and temperature effects, as well as DFT calculations.

Lanthanide (Substituted-)Cyclopentadienyl Bis(phosphinimino)methanediide Complexes: Synthesis and Characterization.

Design and synthesis of high-performance single-molecule magnets (SMMs) have long been a research focus. Inspired by the best dysprosium(III) metallocene SMMs and dysprosium(III) bis(methanediide) SMMs, we assumed dysprosium SMMs, which had electrical neutrality by combining the two types of ligands. As the Dy center is coordinated by one (substituted-)cyclopentadienyl (Cp) ligand and one methanediide ({C(PPhNSiMe)}) ligand on the axial sites, this ideal structure with linear C-Dy-Cp would strengthen the magnetic anisotropy and exhibit excellent SMM properties.

Photoinduced Reductive C-O Couplings from Unsymmetrical Bis-Cyclometalated Pt(IV) Dicarboxylato Complexes.

Unsymmetrical bis-cyclometalated dicarboxylato complexes (-6-32)-[Pt(tpy)(OCR)] [tpy = cyclometalated 2-(-tolyl)pyridine, R = -Bu (), Me (), Ph (), CF ()], are obtained from the reaction of -[Pt(tpy)] with the appropriate PhI(OCR) reagent. Treatment of complexes of this type with different carboxylates (R'CO) results in the formation of mixed-carboxylato derivatives, namely (-6-43)-[Pt(tpy)(OCMe)(OCR')] [R' = -Bu (), CF (), Ph ()], (-6-34)-[Pt(tpy)(OCCF)(OCR')] [R' = -Bu (), Me (), Ph ()], and (-6-34)-[Pt(tpy)(OC--Bu)(OCMe)] (). Irradiation of - and - with UV light (365 nm) in MeCN gives 5-methyl-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl pivalate (), 5-methyl-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl acetate () or 5-methyl-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl benzoate () as the major photoproduct from most complexes, resulting from a reductive C-O coupling between a tpy ligand and a carboxylato ligand.
