A remarkable autofragmentation/rearrangement sequence results in the unprecedented formation of inorganic concave cyclic anion [(NiPS ) ] (structure shown on the right) upon dissolving the potassium salt of the charged mineral polymer [NiPS ] in DMF; the initial complex fluid has a transient anisotropic texture that can be identified by optical microscopy under polarized light. In contrast, the complex fluid that results upon dissolving [PdPS ] is stable up to 323 K as persistent, flexible, charged chains.

Crack detection in high-pressure hydrogen gas components, such as pipes, is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of hydrogen infrastructure. This study conducts the nondestructive testing of crack propagation in steel piping under cyclic compressive loads in the presence of hydrogen in the material. The specimens were hydrogen-precharged through immersion in a 20 mass% ammonium thiocyanate solution at 40 °C for 72 h.

A corannulene-bis-N-imidazolium salt was used for the synthesis of two corannulene-bis-N-heterocyclic carbenes of dirhodium(i) complexes of formula (corannulene-di-NHC)[RhCl(COD)] and (corannulene-di-NHC)[RhCl(CO)]. Both complexes were characterized by spectroscopic techniques, and the electron-donating properties of the corannulene-di-NHC ligand were studied by means of infrared spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The complex (corannulene-di-NHC)[RhCl(COD)] was used for the encapsulation of fullerenes C and C, generating host-guest complexes with 2 : 1 stoichiometry, as evidenced by H NMR and ITC titrations.

As a new type of high-performance material, gradient structural steel is widely used in engineering fields due to its unique microstructure and excellent mechanical properties. For the prevalent fatigue failure problem, the rate of change in the local grain size gradients along the structure (referred to as the gradient rate) is a key parameter in the design of gradient structures, which significantly affects the fatigue performance of gradient structural steel. In this study, a new method of 'Voronoi primary + secondary modeling' is adopted to successfully establish three typical high-strength steel models corresponding to the convex-, linear-, and concave-type gradient rates for gradient structures, focusing on the stress-strain response and crack propagation in structural steel with different gradient rates under cyclic loading.

Developing patches that effectively merge intrinsic deformation characteristics of cardiac with superior tunable mechanical properties remains a crucial biomedical pursuit. Currently used traditional block-shaped or mesh patches, typically incorporating a positive Poisson's ratio, often fall short of matching the deformation characteristics of cardiac tissue satisfactorily, thus often diminishing their repairing capability. By introducing auxeticity into the cardiac patches, this study is trying to present a beneficial approach to address these shortcomings of the traditional patches.

Kekulene, a cycloarene composed of 12 fused benzene rings in a circular arrangement, exhibits a highly planar and robust structure. Kekulene has been the subject of investigation into its aromaticity and electronic structure, particularly in relation to the cyclic benzenoid. We have successfully synthesized novel bowl-shaped kekulene analogues with five-membered rings incorporated into the kekulene structure.
