Because of their high tunability and surface area, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show great promise as supports for metal nanoparticles. Depending on the synthesis route, MOFs may contain defects. Here, we show that highly crystalline MIL-100(Fe) and disordered Basolite® F300, with identical iron 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate composition, exhibit very divergent properties when used as a support for Pd nanoparticle deposition. While MIL-100(Fe) shows a regular MTN-zeotype crystal structure with two types of cages, Basolite® F300 lacks long-range order beyond 8 Å and has a single-pore system. The medium-range configurational linker-node disorder in Basolite® F300 results in a reduced number of Lewis acid sites, yielding more hydrophobic surface properties compared to hydrophilic MIL-100(Fe). The hydrophilic/hydrophobic nature of MIL-100(Fe) and Basolite® F300 impacts the amount of Pd and particle size distribution of Pd nanoparticles deposited during colloidal synthesis and dry impregnation methods, respectively. It is suggested that polar (apolar) solvents/precursors attractively interact with hydrophilic (hydrophobic) MOF surfaces, allowing tools at hand to increase the level of control over, for example, the nanoparticle size distribution.

Cemented Sand, Gravel, and Rock (CSGR) dams have traditionally used either Conventional Vibrated Concrete (CVC) or Grout-Enriched Roller Compacted Concrete (GERCC) for protective and seepage control layers in low- to medium-height dams. However, these methods are complex, prone to interference, and uneconomical due to significant differences in the expansion coefficient, elastic modulus, and hydration heat parameters among CSGR, CVC, and GERCC. This complexity complicates quality control during construction, leading to the development of Grout-Enriched Vibrated Cemented Sand, Gravel, and Rock (GECSGR) as an alternative.

Arsenic contamination of water endangers the health of millions of people worldwide, affecting certain countries and regions with especial severity. Interest in the use of Fe-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) to remove inorganic arsenic species has increased due to their stability and adsorptive properties. In this study, the performance of a synthesized Nano-{Fe-BTC} MOF, containing iron oxide octahedral chains connected by trimesic acid linkers, in adsorbing As(III) and As(V) species was investigated and compared with commercial BasoliteF300 MOF.

l-Amino acid oxidase (LAAO), an FAD-dependent enzyme, catalyzes the oxidation of l-amino acids (l-AAs) to their corresponding imino acids. While LAAOs, which can oxidize charged or aromatic l-AAs specifically, have been extensively characterized across various species, LAAOs that have high specificity toward alkyl-chain l-AAs, such as l-Met, are hardly characterized for now. In this study, we screened a highly specific l-Met oxidizing LAAOs from Burkholderiales bacterium (BbMetOx) and Undibacterium sp.

The adsorption of nickel Ni(II) and chromium Cr(III) ions on the commercial activated carbons WG-12, F-300 and ROW 08, which differ in their pore structure and the chemical nature of their surfaces, were analyzed. The nickel ions Ni were best adsorbed on the WG-12 activated carbon, which had the largest number of carboxyl and lactone groups on the surface of the activated carbons, and the largest specific surface area. Chromium, occurring in solutions with pH = 6 in the form of Cr(OH) and Cr(OH) cations, was best adsorbed on the ROW 08 Supra activated carbon, which is characterized by the highest values of water extract.

MOFs are potential adsorbents for methane separation from nitrogen, including recovery in diluted streams. However, water and carbon dioxide can seriously affect the adsorption performance. Three commercial MOFs, basolite C300, F300, and A100, were studied under similar conditions to fugitive methane streams, such as water (75 and 100% relative humidity) and carbon dioxide (0.
