In the multicellular tissue, cell-cell interaction is important for a precise control of its function. The exchange of signaling molecules between adjacent cells via connexon allows the functional harmony of cells in the tissue. The present research was to determine the presence and expressional patterns of connexin () isoforms in the rat epididymal fat during postnatal development using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis. Of 13 isoforms examined, expression of 11 isoforms in the epididymal fat during postnatal development was detected. These isoforms include 26, 31, 31.1, 32, 33, 36, 37, 40, 43, 45, and 50. Expressional levels of all isoforms at 1 and 2 years of age were significantly higher than those at the early postnatal ages, such as 7 days, 14 days, and 24 days of ages. Except 33 and 43, the transcript levels of rest isoforms at 1 year of age were significantly lower than that at 2 years of age. In addition, expressional patterns of isoforms between 7 days and 5 months of ages generally varied according to the isoform. The existence of various isoforms in the rat epididymal fat has been identified and expression of each isoform in the epididymal fat during postnatal development has shown a particular pattern, distinguishable from the others. To our knowledges, this is the first report showing expressional patterns of isoforms at transcript level in the epididymal fat at various postnatal ages.

Paternal exposure to high-fat diets or individual fatty acids (FAs) including arachidonic acid (AA) modifies progeny traits by poorly understood mechanisms. Specific male reproductive system FAs may be involved in paternal inheritance, as they can modify a range of cellular components, including the epigenome. Our objective was to determine FAs in compartments of the male reproductive system that potentially affect ejaculate composition-right and left testicular interstitial fluid (TIF), vesicular gland fluid (VGF), and epididymal adipose tissue (EAT)-in mice exposed to AA or vehicle daily for 10 days ( = 9-10/group).

Sulphated polysaccharides (SPs) are negatively charged compounds found in the cell wall of seaweeds or marine macro algae. These compounds exhibit a range of pharmacological activities, including anti-obesity effects. The aim of this systematic review as well as meta-analysis was to assess the potentials of seaweed-derived SPs to mitigate obesity through a systematic review and meta-analysis of animal model-based studies.

The objective of this omega-3 feeding study was to elucidate the independent effects of α-linolenic acid (ALA) versus eicosapentaenoic (EPA)/docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on visceral adiposity and inflammatory signaling in diet-induced obese delta-6 desaturase (Fads2) knockout (KO) mice. Male wildtype (WT) and Fads2 KO mice were fed a high-fat diet (45% kcal from fat) containing either lard (no omega-3s), flaxseed (ALA), or menhaden (EPA/DHA) for 21 weeks. Epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT) was analyzed for changes in tissue weight, adipocyte size, triacylglycerol (TAG) and fatty acid content, and inflammatory markers.

Background: PIEZO1 has emerged as a mechanoreceptor linked with adipogenesis, adipose tissue (AT) inflammation and insulin resistance. We aimed to determine the impact of obesity and obesity-associated type 2 diabetes (T2D) as well as mechanical compression forces on the expression of PIEZO1 in visceral AT (VAT) and its relation with inflammation.
Methods: Blood and VAT samples were obtained from 100 volunteers.
Adipose tissue dysfunction leads to abnormal lipid metabolism and high inflammation levels. This research aims to explore the role of Serpina3c, which is highly expressed in adipocytes, in obesity-related hypertriglyceridemia and metaflammation. Serpina3c global knockout (KO) mice, adipocyte-specific Serpina3c overexpressing mice, Serpina3c knockdown (KD) mice, and hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (Hif1α) KD mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 16 weeks to generate obesity-related hypertriglyceridemia mice models.
