Given the prevalence of jaundice in newborns, and the consequences of untreated hyperbilirubinemia, the long-awaited revised clinical practice guidelines for hyperbilirubinemia were finally released in August 2022 by the American Academy of Pediatrics as an update to the 2004 guidelines on the same topic. As new evidence and data become available, it is important for pediatricians and neonatologists to re-assess their clinical decision-making over time to ensure that patients are receiving the best care possible. With improvements in medical equipment and medical technology, and growing concerns about the overtreatment of hyperbilirubinemia, the newest clinical practice guidelines attempt to tackle the prevention, risk assessment, monitoring, and treatment of hyperbilirubinemia with these things in mind.

Stability and compatibility between chemical components are essential parameters that need to be considered in the selection of functional materials in configuring a system. In configuring devices such as batteries or solar cells, not only the functionality of individual constituting materials such as electrodes or electrolyte but also an appropriate combination of materials which do not undergo unwanted side reactions is critical in ensuring their reliable performance in long-term operation. While the universal theory that can predict the general chemical reactivity between materials is long awaited and has been the subject of studies with a rich history, traditional ways proposed to date have been mostly based on simple electronic properties of materials such as electronegativity, ionization energy, electron affinity and hardness/softness, and could be applied to only a small group of materials.

The Society for Vascular Surgery clinical practice guidelines on popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) leverage the work of a panel of experts chosen by the Society for Vascular Surgery to review the current world literature as it applies to PAAs to extract the most salient, evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of these patients. These guidelines focus on PAA screening, indications for intervention, choice of repair strategy, management of asymptomatic and symptomatic PAAs (including those presenting with acute limb ischemia), and follow-up of both untreated and treated PAAs. They offer long-awaited evidence-based recommendations for physicians taking care of these patients.
