The paper proposes a design of acousto-optic cell applying backward collinear interaction and acoustic mode transformation in a KRS-5 crystal. This cell may serve as an acousto-optic tunable filter for far-infrared spectral range and is able to operate both with collimated optical beams and with divergent beams forming images. The problem of acoustic mode transformation by wave reflection from the crystal facet away from symmetry planes has been solved. Polarization properties of the backward collinear interaction in optically isotropic media are discussed.

Perceptual learning, known to improve visual perception, demonstrates the plasticity of brain processes underlying vision. Early studies, using the backward-masked texture discrimination task (TDT), focused on the lack of generalizing learning to stimulus features, relating learning specificity to the selectivity of the brain networks involved in the visual task. Learning was found to be highly specific to the stimulus features, as expected from the processing selectivity found in early visual areas as well as to the task employed in training, pointing to top-down effects.

The O(P) + D → OD(Π) + D reaction presents the peculiarity of taking place on two different potential energy surfaces (PESs) of different symmetry, A' and A'', which become degenerate for collinear configurations where the saddle-point of the reaction is located. The degeneracy is broken for non-collinear approaches with the energy on the A' PES rising more abruptly with the bending angle, making the frequency of this mode higher on the A' state. Consequently, the A' PES should be less reactive than the A'' one.

Background: Epworth Sleepiness Scale for Children and Adolescents (ESS-CHAD) is a valid and reliable eight-item self-administered questionnaire for the assessment of excessive daytime sleepiness and is commonly used to screen sleep-disordered breathing for children and adolescents. The cross-sectional study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt ESS-CHAD into a Malay version of Epworth Sleepiness Scale for Children and Adolescents (MESS-CHAD) for the Malaysian population, and to assess the validity and reliability of MESS-CHAD.
Methods: Forward-backward translation method was used to translate and cross-culturally adapt ESS-CHAD.

A theory has been developed to interpret time-domain Brillouin scattering (TDBS) experiments involving coherent acoustic pulse (CAP) and light pulse beams propagating at an angle to each other. It predicts the influence of the directivity pattern of their acousto-optic interaction on TDBS signals when heterodyne detection of acoustically scattered light is in backward direction to incident light. The theory reveals relationships between the carrier frequency, amplitude and duration of acoustically induced "wave packets" in light transient reflectivity signals, and factors such as CAP duration, widths of light and sound beams, and their interaction angle.

Purpose: To calculate the frequency of infection and acute urinary retention (AUR) following transperineal (TP) prostate biopsy at a single high-volume academic institution and determine risk factors for developing these post-biopsy conditions.
Methods: Men undergoing TP prostate biopsy from 2012 to 2022 at our institution were retrospectively identified and chart reviewed. TP biopsies were performed with TR ultrasound (TRUS) guidance with anesthesia using a brachytherapy grid template.
