Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of phosphate acquisition and delivery in the fungi is critical for full appreciation of the mutualism in this association. Here, we provide updates on physical, chemical, and biological strategies of the fungi for phosphate acquisition, including interactions with phosphate-solubilizing bacteria, and those on the regulatory mechanisms of phosphate homeostasis based on resurveys of published genome sequences and a transcriptome with reference to the latest findings in a model fungus. For the mechanisms underlying phosphate translocation and export to the host, which are major research frontiers in this field, not only recent advances but also testable hypotheses are proposed. Lastly, we briefly discuss applicability of the latest tools to gene silencing in the fungi, which will be breakthrough techniques for comprehensive understanding of the molecular basis of fungal phosphate metabolism.

Glucose Metabolic Abnormalities and Their Interaction With Defective Phosphate Homeostasis in Tumor-induced Osteomalacia.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Key Laboratory of Endocrinology, State Key Laboratory of Complex Severe and Rare Diseases, Dongcheng District, National Commission of Health, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing 100730, China.

Context: Phosphate homeostasis was compromised in tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) due to increased fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) secretion. Nevertheless, the glucose metabolic profile in TIO patients has not been investigated.

Objectives: This work aimed to clarify the glucose metabolic profiles in TIO patients and explore their interaction with impaired phosphate homeostasis.

Tongue swabs represent a potential alternative to sputum as a sample type for detecting pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with molecular diagnostic tests. The methods used to process tongue swabs for testing in the World Health Organization-recommended Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra (Xpert Ultra) assay vary greatly. Here, we aimed to identify the optimal tongue swab processing for Xpert Ultra testing.

Unlabelled: Bacteria transport proteins across the plasma membrane to assemble their envelope, acquire nutrients, and establish appropriate interactions with their environment. The majority of these proteins are synthesized as precursors with a cleavable N-terminal signal sequence for recognition by the Sec machinery. In , a small subset of secreted precursors carries a YSIRK/GXXS motif.

Preparation and Adsorption Properties of Sodium Trimetaphosphate Crosslinked Porous Corn Starch.

Biopolymers

March 2025

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Natural Polymer Chemistry and Physics, College of Chemistry and Materials, Nanning Normal University, Nanning, People's Republic of China.

The crosslinked porous corn starch was prepared by two steps: the native corn starch was hydrolyzed by α-amylase and glucoamylase, then the porous corn was crosslinked by sodium trimetaphosphate (STMP). The morphology and size of granules, spherulites, crystal type, molecular structure, swelling properties, thermal stability and adsorption properties of the crosslinked porous starch were investigated. The results indicated that a lot of holes formed in the porous starch, and the particle size of starch granules decreased.

Liposomes are highly beneficial nanocarrier systems due to their biocompatibility, low toxicity, and exceptional inclusiveness, which lead to improved drug bioavailability. For biological applications, accurate control over these nanoparticles' mean size and size distribution is essential. Micromixers facilitate the continuous production of liposomes, enhancing the precision of size regulation and reproducibility.
