Objective: Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a non-invasive tool providing real-time continuous measurement of regional cerebral blood oxygenation and indirect blood flow. The aim of this review is to determine the best evidence to guide the use of NIRS to detect and avoid abnormalities of cerebral perfusion and oxygenation in newborns with bradycardia.

Design: For this systematic review according to PRISMA Statement, we reviewed papers from 2000 to 2023.

The aging process induces a variety of changes in the brain detectable by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These changes include alterations in brain volume, fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) white matter hyperintense lesions, and variations in tissue properties such as relaxivity, myelin, iron content, neurite density, and other microstructures. Each MRI technique offers unique insights into the structural and compositional changes occurring in the brain due to normal aging or neurodegenerative diseases.

Objectives: Suspension laryngoscopy can trigger vagal reflexes, leading to a decrease in heart rate, a phenomenon that is more common in patients with a high body mass index (BMI). This study aims to systematically evaluate the effect of BMI on heart rate during suspension laryngoscopy (SL-HR) in patients with laryngeal lesions.

Methods: We employed univariate generalized linear regression and stratified analyses to assess the relationship between BMI and changes in SLHR, adjusting for confounders such as age, gender, intubation type, and depth.
