Novel transcripts of EMT driving the malignant transformation of oral submucous fibrosis.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, 576104, India.

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a chronic, progressive, and fibrotic condition of the oral mucosa that carries an elevated risk of malignant transformation. We aimed to identify and validate novel genes associated with the regulation of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in OSF. Genes regulating EMT were identified through differential gene expression analysis, using a LogFC threshold of -1 and + 1 and a padj value < 0.

Isolation, identification, and pathogenicity of a goose astrovirus 1 strain from goslings in Jiangsu province, China.

Microb Pathog

January 2025

Jiangsu Agri-Animal Husbandry Vocational College, Jiangsu Key Laboratory for High-Tech Research and Development of Veterinary Biopharmaceuticals, Taizhou 225300, PR China. Electronic address:

Goose astrovirus (GAstV) poses a large threat to the goose industry in China, with two genotypes: goose astrovirus genotype 1 (GAstV-1) and GAstV-2. GAstV-2 causes gout in goslings; however, understanding of GAstV-1 is limited. In this study, the GAstV-1 strain JY202323, was isolated from dead goslings, and its complete genome sequence was obtained using next-generation sequencing.

Background: In the burn affected area of the skin, the progression or deepening of wounds is related to oxidative stress. Especially in the highly susceptible stasis zone, tissues survive to the extent that they can cope with oxidative stress.

Objective: This study investigated the potential of extracts (E) derived from the fruits (F) and leaves (L) of elderberry (E), chokeberry (C), and black mulberry (M), which are rich in antioxidant properties, to enhance the recovery of the stasis zone in burn wounds.

Background: Skin melanoma is a highly metastatic cancer with an increasing global incidence. Despite advancements in immunotherapy, new treatment strategies based on tumor biology are essential for improving outcomes and developing novel therapies. Autophagy plays a critical role in melanoma cell metabolism and affects the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are a crucial component in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of peritoneal metastasis (PM), where they contribute to tumor progression and metastasis via secretion of interleukin-6 (IL-6). Here, we investigated the role of IL-6 in PM of gastric cancer (GC) and assessed whether anti-IL-6 receptor antibody (anti-IL-6R Ab) could inhibit PM of GC. We conducted immunohistochemical analysis of IL-6 and α-smooth muscle (α-SMA) expressions in clinical samples of GC and PM, and investigated the interactions between CAFs and GC cells in vitro.
