Background: , one of the rarest bees in North America, is a cleptoparasite of bees which themselves are uncommon oligoleges of oil-producing flowers. Only two specimens of the cleptoparasite have been reported from Canada since the 1960s, both from Nova Scotia.

New Information: A recently collected specimen of from Alberta, Canada confirms this species from that province and greatly increases its known range in western North America. This record and additional specimens from southern Ontario (one collected in 1978) have implications for the conservation status of this COSEWIC assessed species in Canada, which are discussed.

Purpose: To study the association between clinicopathologic characteristics of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and risk of subsequent invasive breast cancer (IBC).

Methods: We conducted a case-control study nested in a multicenter, population-based cohort of 8175 women aged ≥ 18 years with DCIS diagnosed between 1987 and 2016 and followed for a median duration of 83 months. Cases (n = 497) were women with a first diagnosis of DCIS who developed a subsequent IBC ≥ 6 months later; controls (2/case; n = 959) were matched to cases on age at and calendar year of DCIS diagnosis.

Purpose: Precise tumor excision is important in breast-conserving surgery (BCS). This study explores the safety and accuracy of fluorescence image-guided BCS (FIGS) using a lidocaine mucilage-ICG compound (L-ICG).

Methods: 54 patients who underwent BCS from August 2020 to September 2023 were enrolled.

Background: End-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant concern for older adults and is often associated with cognitive impairment (CI). The origin of this CI is multifactorial, involving vascular and metabolic factors. Additionally, renal treatments, including dialysis, may affect cognition.

Comparative analysis of floristic richness and diversity in six central forest reserves of north eastern Uganda.

BMC Ecol Evol

January 2025

Department of Plant Sciences, Microbiology and Biotechnology, College of Natural Sciences, Makerere University, P.O. Box 7062, Kampala, Uganda.

As the extinction risk of plants increases globally, there is need to prioritize areas with high floristic richness and diversity to inform the design of evidence-based conservation interventions. As such, this study aimed to comparatively analyse floristic diversity in six central forest reserves (CFR) of north eastern Uganda. This was guided by two objectives namely; (i) to determine the floristic richness and diversity in the CFRs and (ii) to evaluate the similarity and complementarity of floristic composition.

State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Silviculture, Zhejiang A & F University, Hangzhou 311300, China; Department of Pharmaceutical Botany, School of Pharmacy, Naval Medical University, Shanghai 200433, China. Electronic address:

Aging is a complicated process, featuring the progressive deterioration of physiological functions and a heightened susceptibility to diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Apigenin, a flavonoid existing in various plants, has attracted attention due to its potential role in anti-aging. In this investigation, the potential effect of apigenin on extending lifespan in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) and Drosophila melanogaster (flies) was explored.
