In forensic neuropathology, the β-amyloid precursor protein (β-APP) immunostain is used to diagnose axonal injury (AI). The two most common aetiologies are traumatic (TAI) and ischaemic (vascular; VAI). We aimed to identify background characteristics and neuropathology findings that are suggestive of TAI, VAI, or no AI in neuropathologically examined medico-legal autopsy cases.

This retrospective study aims to describe the vascular events in the central nervous system (CNS) associated with the acute form of steroid-responsive meningitis-arteritis (SRMA), to compare the clinical features of dogs with and without such complications and to potentially identify predisposing factors for these events. Dogs with a presumptive diagnosis of SRMA visited between 2018 and 2023 with full medical records that underwent neurological examination, blood testing, cervical computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis were included. Thirty-three dogs were included and divided in two groups.

The term "intracranial abscess" (ICA) includes cerebral abscess, subdural empyema, and epidural empyema, which share many diagnostic and therapeutic similarities and, frequently, very similar etiologies. Infection may occur and spread from a contiguous infection such as sinusitis, otitis, mastoiditis, or dental infection; hematogenous seeding; or cranial trauma. Brain abscess usually results from predisposing factors such as HIV infection, immunosuppressive drug treatment, surgery, adjacent infection (i.

Symptomatic chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is amongst the most frequent neurological diseases with an upward trend due to an aging society and development in the field of anticoagulation therapies. Lately, subgaleal drainages and middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization have been introduced to the standard armamentarium as treatment options for cSDH patients. Vascular anomalies, such as internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion with spontaneous extra-intracranial anastomoses, usually lead to forfeiting embolization treatment from patients.
