Background: The septum of the penis or the pectiniform septum (from Latina pecten) is a connective structure that separates the two corpora cavernosa of the penis. It is formed through the joining of the circular fibers of the tunica albuginea, which envelops the corpora cavernosa. The septum neither completely separates, nor entirely joins the two corpora cavernosa.

OPTICAL BLUR AFFECTS DIFFERENTLY ON AND OFF VISUAL PATHWAYS.

bioRxiv

October 2024

Department of Biological and Visual Sciences, SUNY Optometry, New York, NY 10036, USA.

The human eye has a crystalline lens that focuses retinal images at the point of fixation. Outside this fixation region, images are distorted by optical blur, which increases light scatter and reduces the spatial resolution and contrast processed by neuronal pathways. The spectacle lenses that humans use for optical correction also minify or magnify the images, affecting neuronal surround suppression in visual processing.

Vision corrections used by presbyopic orienteers.

Optom Vis Sci

October 2024

Cambridge Centre for Sports & Exercise Sciences, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Significance: Evaluating the visual challenges and refractive correction solutions of presbyopic orienteers identifies features of relevance to optometric management of the visual needs of active presbyopes.

Purpose: Orienteering is a unique sport requiring visual clarity at a range of viewing distances and has a high proportion of presbyopic participants. This study evaluates the vision corrections used by presbyopic orienteers, specifically aiming to characterize the prevalence of different vision correction options used and to explore the strengths and limitations of different vision correction solutions.

The first attempts of bacteria observation started with the use of glass lenses to generate magnified images of specimens. This technique is constrained by the principal limit to the resolution of any optical system. Besides optical microscopy, other imaging techniques emerged to reveal more levels of details.

Background: Fluoroscopy guided interventions (FGIs) pose a risk of prolonged radiation exposure; personalized patient dosimetry is necessary to improve patient safety during these procedures. However, current FGIs systems do not capture the precise exposure regions of the patient, making it challenging to perform patient-procedure-specific dosimetry. Thus, there is a pressing need to develop approaches to extract and use this information to enable personalized radiation dosimetry for interventional procedures.
