Published: August 2019

Eight linear analogues of the lipopeptide battacin were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus. Of this library, the enantiomeric lipopeptide analogue 9.4 exhibited nanomolar inhibitory activity (MIC=200nmol) against S. aureus. Furthermore, this lipopeptide was resilient toward degradation conditions when exposed to rat serum proteases for up to 8h.

Background: Primary Sjögren Syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease that usually affects salivary glands. Research about the impact of oral health in quality of life of patients with pSS is scarce.

Objectives: to describe the characteristics of oral involvement in patients with pSS; To assess quality of life related to oral health (QOL-OH); to determine association between QOL-OH and saliva production, disease activity, and damage.

The application of chitosan in packaging has always been limited due to its brittle and hygroscopic nature. In this study, hydrophobic short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were utilized to modify chitosan to overcome this issue. For the first time, hydrophobic SCFAs, typically hexanoic acid and its homologs, were found to be able to dissolve chitosan in water as well as its hydrophilic analog.

Borehole strainmeters are essential tools for observing crustal deformation. In long-term observational applications, the dynamic changes in crustal deformation over multi-year scales often exceed the single measurement range of borehole strainmeters. Expanding the measurement range while maintaining high precision is a critical technical challenge.

Mastocytosis is a rare neoplastic disease of the bone marrow. Common symptoms like urticaria, diarrhea, bronchspasm and flushing are caused by mast cell degranulation and are mostly based on mast cell mediator release and Th2 type inflammation that occurs frequently in these patients. Psychological disorders are more prevalent in patients with systemic mastocytosis, though little is known about the mechanism behind this.

A Comparative Kinetic and Thermodynamic Adsorption Study of Methylene Blue and Its Analogue Dye on Filter Paper.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technical and Human Sciences, Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, Calea Sighișoarei 2, 540485 Târgu-Mureş, Romania.

A comparative adsorption study was carried out for methylene blue (MB) and its 3,7-bis(N,N-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino)-phenothiazinium dye analog (MBI). Batch experiments employed aqueous solutions and commercial filter paper. Out of seven kinetic models tested by means of four quality statistical indicators, the pseudo-second-order, the double-exponential, and the bi-linear Weber-Morris equations were best fits.
