During a survey of the yeast community associated with the phylloplane of corn in Thailand, a basidiomycetous yeast strain belonging to the genus Papiliotrema was isolated. Analyses of the D1/D2 domains of the 26S (LSU) rRNA gene and complete ITS region supported the recognition of a novel species, for which the name Papiliotrema plantarum sp. nov. is proposed (type strain DMKU-CP801=CBS 15220=PYCC 7257). Another strain of P. plantarum sp. nov., isolated in French Guiana, was found to be sexually compatible with the Thai isolate and mycelium with clamp connections, basidia and basidiospores were observed in culture. The basidial morphology of P. plantarum combined features previously observed for Papiliotrema bandonii and Papiliotrema fuscus, which represent the only sexual species hitherto known in the genus, i.e. transversely septate basidia, with sexual structures of the Tremella type.

N-propanol is one of the higher alcohols, a moderate amount of n-propanol is beneficial for the harmony of the liquor body, whereas excessive or repeated intake will lead to discomfort and pose significant harm to human health. In actual production process of Jiangxiangxing Baijiu, the n-propanol content of the base baijiu in first round (FR) is far higher than that of second round (SR). Nevertheless, the formation mechanism and the key n-propanol producing microbials remain unclear and this limits the quality control of baijiu fermentation.

Whole utilization of okara has important economic value, but there are two technical barriers: coarse mouthfeel caused by insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) and undesirable "beany" off-odors. UV-A irradiation and/or microbial fermentation were used to modify okara. The results indicated that single and combined treatments increased the soluble dietary fiber (SDF) content.

Layer-by-Layer (LbL) self-assembly encapsulation is a promising technology for the protection and delivery of lactic acid bacteria. However, laboratory-scale encapsulation is often time-consuming, involves intensive protocols tailored for small-scale operations, requires substantial amounts of energy and water, and results in a low yield of encapsulated biomass. Scaling-up this process to a bench-bioreactor scale is not simply a matter of increasing culture volume as different key parameters (not particularly relevant at lab scale) become critical, including biomass production, the number of polymer layers, and the biomass-to-polymer mass ratio.

Intestinal mucosal tissues are prone to infections, often leading to inflammation. Lactic acid bacteria in the gut can modulate these inflammatory responses, but the interaction between host cells and lactic acid bacteria remains unclear. This study examines how HY7714 alleviates intestinal inflammation using gut-on-a-chip technology and in vitro models.

Probiotics have been used in functional foods and dietary supplements, and in recent years, they have become more widely used in pets. In our previous experiment, L-27-2 and L-14-1 were isolated from cat feces and proved to have positive effects on lipid metabolism in mice. To further discuss their possible effects in cats, a total of 12 healthy cats (British Shorthair) were randomly divided into two groups.
