In this review, we cover the evolution of knowledge on the biology of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) and its translation to therapy. The usual key to discovery is a realistic model for experimentation and for testing a hypothesis. A realistic model is especially needed in the case of the human prostate, which differs significantly from the prostate of species often used as research models. We will emphasize the genetic characterization of PSMA, the nature of the PSMA protein, and its role as a carboxypeptidase, with differing important substrates and products in different tissues. We give special prominence to the importance of PSMA as a target for imaging and therapy in prostate cancer and its underdeveloped role for imaging and targeting the neovasculature of tumors other than prostate cancer. Lastly, we bring attention to its importance in other nonprostatic tissues.

Infectious microbes can spread rapidly from fomites (contaminated surfaces) via hand touch, with prolonged residence time on surfaces increasing transmission risk by extending exposure periods and/or involving more susceptible individuals. Existing studies have focused on decreasing microbial contamination, but not on the need for rapid removal from surface systems. This study introduces residence time as the time that a microbe spends within the surface system.

This study aimed to evaluate the imaging performance of a range of clinically-used breast ultrasound systems using a set of novel spherical lesion contrast-detail (C-D) and anechoic-target (A-T) phantoms.
Methods: C-D and A-T phantoms were imaged using a range of clinical breast ultrasound systems and imaging modes.

Accurately classifying optical coherence tomography (OCT) images is essential for diagnosing and treating ophthalmic diseases. This paper introduces a novel generative adversarial network framework called MGR-GAN. The masked image modeling (MIM) method is integrated into the GAN model's generator, enhancing its ability to synthesize more realistic images by reconstructing them based on unmasked patches.

Molecular docking is a crucial technique for elucidating protein-ligand interactions. Machine learning-based docking methods offer promising advantages over traditional approaches, with significant potential for further development. However, many current machine learning-based methods face challenges in ensuring the physical plausibility of generated docking poses.

This study investigates the optimal design and operation of an underwater ultrasonic system for algae removal, focusing on the electromechanical load of Langevin-type piezoelectric transducers. These piezoelectric transducers, which operate in underwater environments, exhibit variations in electrical-mechanical impedance due to practical environmental factors, such as waterproof molding structures or variations in pressure and flow rates depending on the water depth. To address these challenges, we modeled the underwater load conditions using the finite element method and analyzed the impedance characteristics of the piezoelectric transducer under realistic environmental conditions.
