Background: Long-acting beta2-agonists (LABA) in combination with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are commonly used to treat asthma, however, some children lack response to the addition of LABA. This might be partially due to the presence of the Arg16Gly polymorphism, encoded by rs1042713 G>A in the ADRB2 gene. Carrying the A allele (Arg16) at this variant has been associated with an increased risk of exacerbations despite LABA treatment.

Middle Eastern countries, such as the United Arab Emirates and Oman, are affected by frequent dust storms and extreme hot climatic conditions, which can exacerbate respiratory conditions. These environmental factors are particularly injurious to asthmatic patients, as they can aggravate small airway disease (SAD), leading to increased morbidity and healthcare challenges. The evaluation of maximal mid-expiratory flow (MEF-25) as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for early-stage small airway dysfunction is of significant clinical importance, particularly in hot and arid metropolitan environments where dusty conditions exacerbate pulmonary issues.

The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of breathing parameters, age, gender and disease status on the lung doses of the two ICS + LABA fixed combination dry powder drugs. Breathing parameters of 113 COPD patients were measured while inhaling through emptied NEXThaler® and Ellipta® inhalers and the corresponding lung doses were calculated. Lung dose of Foster® NEXThaler® was superior to the lung dose of Relvar® Ellipta® in around 85 % of the patients.

Background: UMEC/VI administered via a combination inhaler is associated with a clinically significant improvement in lung function and health-related quality of life in patients with mild-to-moderate COPD. However, their efficacy compared to other bronchodilator mono or dual therapies still remains unclear.
Objective: The objective of this research was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of UMEC/VI dual and UMEC/VI/FF triple therapies versus alternative bronchodilator regimens in COPD patients.

Background: We evaluated the inhaled corticosteroid/long-acting muscarinic antagonist/long-acting β-agonist (ICS/LAMA/LABA) triple therapy with budesonide/glycopyrronium/formoterol fumarate dihydrate (BGF) versus dual LAMA/LABA and ICS/LABA therapies in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and phenotypic features of asthma (bronchodilator reversibility and elevated blood eosinophils), but no asthma diagnosis, for whom treatment guidelines are limited.
Patients And Methods: KRONOS (NCT02497001) and ETHOS (NCT02465567) enrolled patients with moderate-to-very-severe COPD, no current asthma diagnosis, and either ≥0 (KRONOS) or ≥1 (ETHOS) moderate/severe exacerbations in the prior year. This pooled post hoc analysis evaluated trough forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV) and FEV area under the curve from hours 0 to 4 (AUC) change from baseline over 12-24 weeks, moderate/severe exacerbation rates, and St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) total score over 24 weeks with ICS/LAMA/LABA (BGF 320/14.
