The size of polymeric nanoparticles is considered as an effective factor in cancer therapy due to enterance into tumor tissue via the EPR effect. The purpose of this work was to investigate the effective parameters on poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)-paclitaxel (PLGA -PTX) nanoparticles size. We prepared PLGA-PTX nanoparticles via single emulsion and precipitation methods with variable paremeters including drug concentration, aqueous to organic phase volume ratio, polymer concentration, sonication time and PVA concentration. PLGA-PTX nanoparticles were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results exhibited that the diameter of nanoparticles enhanced with increasing drug, polymer and PVA concentrations whereas organic to aqueous phase volume ratio and sonication time required to the optimization for a given size. The precipitation method provides smaller nanoparticles compared to emulsion one. Variable parameters including drug concentration, aqueous to organic phase volume ratio, polymer concentration, sonication time and PVA concentration affect diameter of nanoparticles.

Background: This study investigates the role and efficacy of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy during the recovery phase of patients with traumatic spinal cord injury. Patients hospitalized in the acupuncture department of our center between December 1, 2019, and December 1, 2021, were enrolled.
Methods: Participants were divided into an observation group (acupuncture and rehabilitation therapy) and a control group (rehabilitation therapy alone) based on their treatment sequence.

This study applied cumulative sum (CUSUM) analysis to evaluate trends in operative time and blood loss, It aims to identify key milestones in mastering extraperitoneal single-site robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (ss-RARP). A cohort of 100 patients who underwent ss-RARP, performed by a single surgeon at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University between March 2021 and June 2023, was retrospectively analyzed. To evaluate the learning curve, the CUSUM (Cumulative Sum Control Chart) technique was applied, revealing the progression and variability over time.

Biochars (BCs) derived from waste-branches of apple tree, grape tree, and oak were developed for direct solid-phase extraction (SPE) of five benzodiazepines (BZDs) in crude urine samples prior to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) determination. Scanning electron microscopy, elemental analyzer, X-ray diffractometry, N adsorption/desorption experiments, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry characterizations revealed the existence of their mesoporous structure and numerous oxygen-containing functional groups. The obtained BCs not only possessed high affinity towards BZDs via π-π and hydrogen bond interactions, but also afforded the great biocompatibility of excluding interfering components from undiluted urine samples when using SPE adsorbents.

Spontaneous bubble growths in liquids are usually triggered by rapid changes in pressure or temperature that can lead to liquid gas supersaturation. Here, we report alternative scenarios of the spontaneous growths of bubbles inside a high-saturation-vapor-pressure and high-air-solubility perfluorocarbon liquid (PP1) that were observed under ambient quiescent conditions. First, we investigate spontaneous bubble growth inside the single PP1 phase, which was left to evaporate freely.

Solid-state electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries, which enable a significant increase in storage capacity, are at the forefront of alternative energy storage systems due to their attractive properties such as wide electrochemical stability window, relatively superior contact stability against Li metal, inherently dendrite inhibition, and a wide range of temperature functionality. NASICON-type solid electrolytes are an exciting candidate within ceramic electrolytes due to their high ionic conductivity and low moisture sensitivity, making them a prime candidate for pure oxidic and hybrid ceramic-in-polymer composite electrolytes. Here, we report on producing pure and Y-doped Lithium Aluminum Titanium Phosphate (LATP) nanoparticles by spray-flame synthesis.
