An analysis of vicariant speciation of and (Coleoptera, Geotrupidae, Scarabaeidae) from the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico is undertaken. The new species of dung beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) from Oaxaca, Mexico, is described. Photos of the habitus and a distribution map are provided. Arnaud is revalidated. An updated key for the species group and new localities are also presented. An updated key for the of Oaxaca and new locality records are also submitted.

The human CMP-sialic acid transporter (hCST) is a mammalian highly conserved type III antiporter that translocates CMP-sialic acid into the Golgi lumen, supporting sialylation. Although different works have focused on elucidating structure-function relationships in the hCST, this is the first study to address them in an alternatively spliced isoform. We have previously reported the expression of a functional human del177 isoform that has skipping of exon 6, resulting in a loss of 59 amino acids, without change in the open reading frame and conserving its C-terminal region.

Importance: There is growing understanding that Social Determinants of Health (SDH) impact on the outcomes of different pediatric conditions. We aimed to determine whether SDH affect the severity of MIS-C.
Design: Retrospective cohort study, 2021-2023.

Background: Seedling growth and survival depend on seedling quality. However, there is no experimental evidence showing that the seedling dimensions of the abundant, economically important and widely distributed tree species , , , , and and their hybrids effectively improve survival and growth in reforestations and plantations in Mexico. Therefore, the aim was to evaluate the influence of initial morphological parameters of 2,007 nursery seedlings of these species and their hybrids on their growth and survival 44 months after planting in the Sierra Madre Occidental, Mexico.

Background Dental caries is identified as one of the most prevalent chronic pathologies among the pediatric population on a global scale, constituting a public health problem. Within the permanent dentition, the first molars play a fundamental and critical role both in masticatory functionality and in the development of occlusion and the overall oral health of the patient. Previous research has shown that permanent molars tend to show significantly high levels of caries incidence, and a correlation has been detected between the status of the first permanent molars and the overall caries rate.

The precise role of neutrophil-derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) in combating bacterial uropathogens during urinary tract infections (UTI) remains largely unexplored. In this study, we elucidate the antimicrobial significance of NADPH oxidase 2 (NOX2)-derived ROS, as opposed to mitochondrial ROS, in facilitating neutrophil-mediated eradication of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), the primary causative agent of UTI. Furthermore, NOX2-derived ROS regulate NF-κB-mediated inflammatory responses in neutrophils against UPEC by inducing the release of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) from its inhibitor, Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1).
