BACKGROUND The management of unstable atlas fractures remains a subject of ongoing debate and controversy. The conservative surgical treatment commonly involves fusion, resulting in severe loss of cervical spine mobility, and a large incisions and extensive tissue dissection are required. We aim to introduce a novel concept and surgical approach for treating atlas fracture, one that involves minimizing trauma while maintaining mobility of the upper cervical spine without resorting to fusion.

During routine sampling of northern pike, a male with circular blue-metallic granular spots mainly located on the head and back was identified. Histological investigations presented multifocally thickened epidermis rich in basophilic large structures with a granulated rim and a dense, non-granulated center. Other organs showed no signs of infection.

: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a surgical technique for managing post-penetrating keratoplasty (PK) ectasia complicated by late endothelial failure (LEF). : A single-center pilot case series was conducted regarding consecutive patients affected by post-PK ectasia with late graft failure. Using a microkeratome, a single donor cornea was dissected to prepare a two-piece graft, comprising a larger anterior lamella made up of anterior stroma and a smaller posterior lamella made up of posterior stroma, Descemet's membrane, and endothelium.

There are many different cells that perform highly specialized functions in the human hematological and immune systems. Due to the relevance of their activity, in this work we investigated the cell types and subtypes that form this complex system, using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to dissect and assess the markers that best define each cell population. We first developed an optimized computational workflow for analyzing large scRNA-seq datasets.
