This research focused on the physical properties and cell compatibility of nanofibrous scaffolds based on polycaprolactone/chitosan (PCL/CTS) and PCL/carboxymethyl chitosan (PCL/CMC) blends for bone tissue engineering application. Scaffolds were fabricated by electrospinning technique. SEM images showed that the undesirable ultrafine and splitting fibers in PCL/CTS scaffolds are eliminated by replacing CTS with CMC. PCL/CMC scaffolds exposed significantly improved surface hydrophilicity improvement comparing to PCL/CTS ones. The water contact angle of PCL scaffold was reduced on the addition of 15% CMC from 123 ± 1° to 51 ± 3° in high concentration of CMC scaffold. The average diameter of fibers in PCL/CTS 15% and PCL/CMC 15% were 439 and 356 nm, respectively, which demonstrated higher concentrations of CMC resulted in decrease fibers diameter than other blended scaffolds. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the composition of PCL/CTS and PCL/CMC scaffolds. The culturing of human osteoblast cells (MG63) on the scaffolds showed that all scaffolds are biocompatible. The PCL/CMC nanofibers exhibited promoting proliferation trend, compared to the PCL and PCL/CTS ones, especially at maximum concentrations of CMC. The results demonstrate that the PCL/CMC electrospun scaffolds can be an excellent candidate for bone tissue engineering application.

This study compares and investigates the efficacy of 2 different surgical methods for early stage femoral head necrosis and analyze the factors affecting surgical outcomes and long-term femoral head survival. Lisfranc Fracture-dislocation With Extensor Hallucis Brevis Tendon Interposition: A Case Report.

Case: A 14-year-old adolescent girl sustained a Lisfranc fracture-dislocation with an interposed extensor hallucis brevis (EHB) tendon. Following multiple failed attempts at closed reduction in both the emergency department and the operating room, the patient was treated in a staged manner with temporizing closed reduction and percutaneous pinning in improved alignment, followed by definitive open reduction and internal fixation once soft tissues allowed.

Conclusions: Anatomic reduction and stable fixation of Lisfranc injuries is vital to regain stability and reduce the risk of midfoot arthritis and collapse.

Case: We report a case of coccygeal dislocation complicated by defecatory dysfunction and discuss its treatment and mechanisms. A 58-year-old man was presented with coccygeal pain and defecatory dysfunction after sustaining an injury from a 1-m fall. Case: A 51-year-old male polytrauma patient presented with bilateral calcaneus fractures after a fall. This report describes treatment of his right comminuted Sanders IV calcaneus fracture with percutaneous open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) primary subtalar fusion to restore alignment and preserve soft tissue.

Conclusion: Unlike traditional open approaches, which are prone to wound complications due to larger incisions, our approach of maintaining fracture alignment during joint preparation using an MIS burr for acute posttrauma subtalar arthrodesis and percutaneous ORIF appears to have reduced these risks, resulting in successful radiological healing and functional recovery at 1-year follow-up.
