Thiolactones have attracted considerable attention in recent years as bioactive natural products, lead compounds for drug discovery, molecular probes, and reagents for polymerisation. We have investigated radical-mediated C-C bond forming reactions as a strategy for thiolactone synthesis. Cyclisation of an α-bromo aluminium thioacetal was investigated under radical conditions. It was found that at low temperature, a radical fragmentation and rearrangement process occurs. A putative reaction mechanism involving a previously unreported aluminium templated thiol-ene step for the rearrangement process is presented. Cyclisation reactions of α-bromo thioesters and α-xanthate thioesters under radical mediated conditions furnished the desired thiolactones in moderate yields.

Background: The low incidence and poor prognosis primary trastuzumab resistance (PTR) in HER2-positive breast cancer has limited research into possible treatments. Thus, it remains unclear whether this group of patients could benefit from nontargeting HER2 antiangiogenic therapy.

Patients And Methods: We collected the medical data for HER2-positive patients with PTR who received apatinib 250 mg and trastuzumab-based chemotherapy (ATBC) between March 18, 2017, and March 31, 2022.

Rational design of redox active metal organic frameworks for mediated electron transfer of enzymes.

The efficient immobilization of redox mediators remains a major challenge in the design of mediated enzyme electrode platforms. In addition to stability, the ability of the redox-active material to mediate electron transfer from the active-site buried enzymes, such as flavin adenine dinucleotide-dependent glucose dehydrogenase (FADGDH) and lactate oxidase (LOx), is also crucial. Conventional immobilization techniques can be synthetically challenging, and immobilized mediators often exhibit limited durability, particularly in continuous operation.

NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) currently are the most efficient catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline environments. However, the development of high-performance low cost OER electrocatalysts using straightforward strategies remains a significant challenge. In this study, we describe an innovative microbial mineralization-based method for in situ-induced preparation of NiFe LDH nanosheets loaded on nickel foam and demonstrate that this material serves as an efficient oxygen evolution electrocatalyst.

Dynamics of hydrogen shift reactions between peroxy radicals.

Peroxy radicals are key intermediates in many atmospheric processes. Reactions between such radicals are of particular interest as they can lead to accretion products capable of participating in new particle formation (NPF). These reactions proceed through a tetroxide intermediate, which then decomposes to a complex of two alkoxy radicals and O, with spin conservation dictating that the complex must be formed in the triplet state.
