In this study the phototactic response of anopheline mosquitoes to different luminous intensity light-emitting diodes (LEDs) was investigated. Centers for Disease Control-type light traps were changed by replacement of the incandescent lamps by 5 mm round type green (520 nm) and blue (470 nm) LEDs of different luminous intensities: green-LED traps with luminous intensities of 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000 millicandela (mcd) and the blue-LED traps with luminous intensities of 4000, 12,000 and 15,000 mcd. Our data showed that increasing luminous intensity has an effect on the attraction of anopheline mosquitoes to light traps, highlighting the importance of taking LEDs and light sources of high luminous intensity into account when using light-trap collections in monitoring populations of Anopheles species.

Visible light photocatalysts hold great promise for water purification, yet research on highly efficient, non-toxic photocatalysts is limited. This study synthesized novel g-CN/AlOOH photocatalytic nanocomposites via thermal condensation, enhancing adsorption and visible light degradation by 36-fold and 11-fold, respectively, compared to g-CN alone. The nanocomposites achieved a 98% removal rate of methyl orange under xenon lamp irradiation (>400 nm) for 1 hour.

Mental health and sleep routines: Uttarkashi, India tunnel collapse workers' experience.

Sleep Med

December 2024

Department of Psychiatry & Division of Sleep Medicine, AIIMS Rishikesh, India.

Among the mental health outcomes and disaster types (determined by damage to life, property, long-term consequences, displacement, and unpredictability), floods are associated with anxiety and sleep problems, mudslides with anxiety and mood disturbance, volcanic eruptions with acute stress reactions, and earthquakes with anxiety, depression, and physical complaints. Disasters such as tunnel collapse are unique as it involves the healthy, without loss of personal property or displacement; hence, they can have very different health-related outcomes. In this study, we explore mental health and sleep-related issues in workers rescued from an under-construction collapsed tunnel trapped for 17 days.

Bongkrekic acid (BKA), a less well-known foodborne toxin, has been implicated in numerous poisoning incidents. Recent studies suggest that BKA exerts an impact on the immune system, particularly on innate immunity. The release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) is relatively a newly-discovered mechanism involving innate immunity.

Due to intrinsic defects in blue-light-emitting perovskite materials, the charge carriers are prone to being trapped by the trap states. Therefore, the preparation of efficient blue-light-emitting perovskite materials remains a significant challenge. Herein, CsPb(Cl/Br) nanocrystal (NCs)@SiO structures were fabricated through hydrolyzing (3-aminopropyl)-triethoxysilane (APTS).
