This study uses the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Nationwide Emergency Department Sample to examine the number of preventable trauma deaths in US hospitals to provide a target for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine mandate of zero preventable deaths after injury.

FRAX, a risk calculator that provides individualized 10-year probabilities of hip and major osteoporotic fracture, has been widely used for fracture risk assessment since its launch in 2008. It is now incorporated into very many guidelines worldwide to inform osteoporosis management. In this review, we explore the development of FRAX and how it enhances fracture risk prediction as compared to use of bone mineral density alone, as well as approaches to utilizing FRAX in determining intervention and assessment thresholds.

Background: Mutton Bustin' was developed as a safer alternative to rough stock rodeo events such as bull riding to allow kids to participate in the rodeo. Children hold on to the bareback of a running sheep until they fall, competing to see who can ride the longest. While reports of injuries due to other rodeo events are well described in the literature, there are no reports of Mutton Bustin'-associated injuries.
