The anti-cancer potential of eugenol (EUG) is well recognized, whereas that of spermidine (SPD) is subject to dispute and requires further research. The anti-tumorigenic potential of wheat germ SPD (150 µM) and clove EUG (100 µM), alone, in combination as SPD+EUG (50 µM + 100 µM) and, as a supplement (SUPPL; 0.6 µM SPD + 50 µM EUG), was investigated on both metastatic SW620 and primary Caco-2 colorectal cancer (CRC) spheroids.

Novel inhibitory effect of Omega-3 fatty acids regulating pancreatic cancer progression.

Carcinogenesis

January 2025

Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias de la Salud, INICSA (CONICET - FCM UNC), 5016 Córdoba, Argentina.

Pancreatic cancer is a devastating malignancy in great need of new and more effective treatment approaches. In recent years, studies have indicated that nutritional interventions, particularly nutraceuticals, may provide novel avenues to modulate cancer progression. Here, our study characterizes the impact of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), as a nutraceutical intervention in pancreatic cancer using a genetically engineered mouse model driven by KrasG12D and Trp53R172H.

December 2024

Department of Epidemiology & Health Economics, Julius Centre for Health Sciences and Primary Care, University Medical Centre Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands. Electronic address:

Purpose: Managed Entry Agreements (MEAs) are agreements between firms and competent authorities for pricing and reimbursement, designed to enable coverage of new medicines while managing uncertainties around their financial impact or performance. Although these agreements can facilitate patient access, their complexity and costs seem to dampen enthusiasm for implementation. Nevertheless, MEAs remain a potential route, particularly for high-cost drugs with uncertain value claims.

Change Meat Resistance: Systematic Literature Review on Consumer Resistance to the Alternative Protein Transition.

Annu Rev Food Sci Technol

December 2024

3PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, The Hague, The Netherlands.

Consumer resistance significantly impedes the transition from animal-derived proteins to alternative protein sources through a dual mechanism: consumer reluctance to change entrenched meat-eating habits and hesitation among policymakers, marketers, and practitioners due to anticipated resistance. The concept of resistance is intricate and viewed diversely across research disciplines. We conducted an extensive systematic literature review supplemented by an artificial intelligence-based approach.
