This paper comparatively investigated the removal efficiency and mechanisms of rice straw biochars prepared under three pyrolytic temperatures for two kinds of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics (doxycycline and ciprofloxacin). The influencing factors of antibiotic adsorption (including biochar dosage, pH, background electrolytes, humic acid, initial antibiotics concentration, contact time, and temperature) were comprehensively studied. The results suggest that biochars produced at high-temperature [i.e., 700°C (BC700)], have higher adsorption capacity for the two antibiotics than low-temperature (i.e., 300-500°C) biochars (BC300 and BC500). Higher surface area gives rise to greater volume of micropores and mesopores, and higher graphitic surfaces of the BC700 contributed to its higher functionality. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be in the following order: DOX > CIP. The π-π EDA interaction and hydrogen bonding might be the predominant adsorption mechanisms. Findings in this study highlight the important roles of high-temperature biochars in controlling the contamination of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics in the environment.

Purpose Of Review: The aim is to discuss the evidence and recent literature on the role of older antibiotics in the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs).
Recent Findings: The choice of therapy for SSTIs is complicated in view of the rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the availability of new antibiotics. SSTIs are predominantly caused by Staphylococcus aureus and beta-hemolytic streptococci, but other organisms can be involved in patients with comorbidities or post trauma.

Owing to the extensive use of antibiotics in hospitals, animal husbandry, and various human activities, antibiotic contamination is becoming an increasing global concern, including in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, the Buriganga River is heavily polluted with multiple antibiotics, which can lead to antibiotic resistance in bacteria. In this study, we performed the first investigation of seasonal variations in the occurrence and spatial distribution of 29 antibiotics in the Buriganga River, Bangladesh, from wet season (August 2019) and dry season (February 2020).

Background: (Hi) is known as a cause of invasive and non-invasive diseases. Especially ear, nose and throat (ENT) infections are common reasons for antibiotic prescriptions in outpatient settings in Germany. Therefore, antibiotic resistance surveillance is important to provide the basis of recommendations for the empirical usage of antibiotic agents.

To analyze the genus, drug resistance/virulence and phylogenetic characteristics of strains isolated from brucellosis surveillance sentinels in Henan Province from 2013 to 2022, and provide baseline data for the surveillance, early warning and outbreak tracing of brucellosis. Blood samples were collected from patients with infection for strain isolation, culture and species identification, drug susceptibility test, whole genome sequencing, splicing and assembly, functional/virulence/resistance gene prediction analysis and phylogenetic tree drawing based on single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). In 36 brucellosis patients, the majority were men (86.

In order to understand the spatial-temporal distribution and ecological risk of antibiotics in the soil of an agricultural watershed in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, the topsoil samples were collected at 26 sites in the Wangjiagou small watershed, Fuling District, Chongqing in spring, summer, autumn, and winter of 2022, and 21 antibiotics with five classes were determined using solid phase extraction and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The content levels and spatial-temporal distribution of antibiotics were analyzed, the correlations between antibiotic contents and soil physicochemical factors were discussed, and the potential ecological risk of antibiotics in the soil was evaluated using the risk quotient method. The results showed that the detection rates of 21 antibiotics were 0-100% with the range of ND-219.
