The unique biophysical properties of proton therapy (PT), regarding the precise dose distribution, a remarkable better sparing of surrounding normal tissues, and the decreasing costs have promoted the spread of this technique worldwide. In Spain, eleven new PT centers, added to the currently two in function, are expected to be available in the near future. Indications for PT are currently evolving.

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Current status and future perspectives.

Med Clin (Barc)

July 2024

Unidad de Hipertensión, Servicio de Medicina Interna, Hospital Mútua Terrassa, Universidad de Barcelona, Barcelona, España. Electronic address:

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is considered the best method for obtaining a reliable estimation of the true blood pressure. Average values obtained during the whole 24-hour period, or during daytime and nighttime periods are better correlated with the risk of mortality and cardiovascular disease compared to clinic or office blood pressure. Indeed, nighttime blood pressure, a measure only obtained through ABPM, is the most powerful risk predictor.

[Autoimmunity in chronic urticaria. A historical and current perspective].

Rev Alerg Mex

January 2022

Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado, Centro Médico Nacional 20 de Noviembre, Servicio de Inmunología Clínica y Alergia, Ciudad de México, México,

Chronic spontaneous urticaria is a condition that persists for more than six weeks, it occurs in the absence of an identifiable triggering factor and from the pathogenic activation of mast cells and basophils. The possibility of autoimmune etiology in up to 40 % of patients is presented, followed by subclinical infections and psychological factors. Two main mechanisms of the pathogenesis of chronic urticaria have been proposed: the former is the dysregulation of intracellular signaling pathways within mast cells and basophils, which leads to defects in the traffic or function of these cells.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy in patients with aggressive B-cell lymphomas. Current outlook after a decade of treatment.

Med Clin (Barc)

April 2022

Department of Hematology, University Hospital Vall d'Hebron, Barcelona, España; Department of Medicine, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Bellaterra, España; Experimental Hematology, Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), Barcelona, España. Electronic address:

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has revolutionized the management of patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who are refractory or relapse after immunochemotherapy. This strategy consists in genetically modifying the patient's own T lymphocytes to favor the recognition of selected tumor antigens. Currently, we have two anti-CD19 CAR-T drugs approved in Spain for patients with DLBCL after two or more prior treatment lines and there are multiple ongoing clinical trials exploring earlier lines of treatment.
