Near and Distance Stereoacuity in Patients With Primary Open-angle Glaucoma.

Published: June 2018

Purpose: To compare near and distance stereoacuity between patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and a control group, and to analyze the associations between stereoacuity and POAG severity.

Methods: This cross-sectional study compared near and distance stereoacuity between the POAG and control groups. The data from the POAG group were used to assess the associations between stereoacuity (both near and distance) and the severity of visual field (VF) defects (based on Hodapp-Anderson-Parrish classification and the VF index).

Results: The study included 94 eyes of 47 patients with POAG and 80 eyes of 40 control subjects. Near and distance stereoacuity were significantly lower in the POAG group than in the control group (both P<0.001). Near stereoacuity worsened with POAG severity in terms of both the Hodapp-Anderson-Parrish classification and VF index (P=0.007 and P=0.049, respectively). However, distance stereoacuity was not associated with POAG severity for either categorization (P=0.12 and P=0.57, respectively). The proportions of patients with reduced near stereoacuity and those with a lack of distance stereoacuity were higher in the POAG group than in the control group.

Conclusions: Near and distance stereoacuity were significantly lower among patients with POAG than among control subjects. Near stereoacuity worsened with increasing POAG severity but distance stereoacuity did not. However, the proportion of patients with a lack of distance stereoacuity was higher in the POAG group than in the control group.

Non-surgical therapy for intermittent exotropia: a systematic review and network analysis.

BMC Ophthalmol

December 2024

Department of Ophthalmology, Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, 72 Guangzhou Road, Gulou District, Nanjing, 210008, Jiangsu Province, China.

Objective: This study aimed to conduct a network meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of various non-surgical treatments for intermittent exotropia(IXT).

Methods: A comprehensive search of the PubMed, EMbase, and Cochrane Library databases was performed to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to June 2024. Following independent screening, data extraction, and bias assessment by two researchers, network meta-analysis was conducted using R 4.

Clinical Relevance: Myopia control is a prominent area of global research, with multifocal contact lenses identified as an effective intervention for adolescents.

Background: This study aims to evaluate the visual performance and vision-related quality of life (QoL) of myopic adolescents when corrected with pupil-optimised multifocal soft contact lenses (MFSCLs) versus single-vision contact lenses (SVCLs), with each participant serving as their own control.

Methods: Thirty-five myopic adolescents, habitually wearing SVCLs and fitted with pupil-optimised MFSCL with mid-addition power, were recruited.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate factors associated with outcomes after 3 months of instructed usage of hand-held digital devices (DD) in patients with acquired comitant esotropia (ACE).

Methods And Analysis: This prospective multicentre observational study included patients with ACE, aged 5-35 years, who used DD within 1 year of onset and were followed up for clinical findings and instructed use of DD. The outcomes were classified into four groups: cured, improved, unchanged and worsened.
